    Position Overview

    The Direct Service Provider (DSP) provides direct care and daily living support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in a home and group home setting. DSPs play an important role in promoting resident independence, safety, dignity, and emotional well-being while assisting with everyday activities and routines.

    This position requires compassion, patience, reliability, and a commitment to creating a supportive and positive environment where residents can thrive.

    Reports to: House Manager/Clinical Leadership Team

    Key Responsibilities

    Resident Care & Daily Living Support

    • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation
    • Support residents with mobility, transfers, ambulation, and participation in daily routines
    • Encourage independence, life skills development, and community involvement whenever appropriate
    • Provide companionship and emotional support to residents in a respectful and compassionate manner

    Resident Monitoring & Safety

    • Monitor residents throughout shifts to ensure safety, comfort, and well-being
    • Observe and report changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition to nursing or leadership staff
    • Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe home environment for residents and staff

    Documentation & Communication

    • Accurately document care provided, observations, and incidents in accordance with company policies
    • Communicate effectively with team members, nurses, families, and supervisors regarding resident needs and concerns
    • Participate in shift handoffs and team discussions to support continuity of care
    • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with HIPAA guidelines

    Supportive Care & Community Engagement

    • Assist residents with recreational activities, appointments, and community outings as assigned
    • Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment within the home
    • Support residents in achieving personal goals and maximizing independence
    • Foster trusting relationships that encourage emotional well-being and confidence

    Teamwork & Professionalism

    • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality resident care
    • Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities
    • Follow organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements consistently
    • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and compassion in all interactions

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Previous experience in caregiving, healthcare, group homes, human services, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
    • Compassionate, patient, and dependable personality with a strong desire to help others
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather as needed
    • Ability to lift, move, push, or pull 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
    • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain within designated timeframe
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
