Job Title: In-Home Special Needs Direct Support Professional (Youth Complex Care)

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated In-Home Special Needs Direct Support Professional to join our team, specializing in Youth Complex Care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in providing support and care to young individuals with special needs, ensuring a nurturing and safe environment that promotes their well-being and development. Previous experience with children who may use self-harm as a coping mechanism, experience emotional dysregulation, non-compliance, and challenging behaviors. We are looking for candidates who are patient, have excellent communication skills, and truly care and want to make a positive impact on children and their families through individualized services and trusting relationships.
This is a Part-Time position. Total hours are variable and coordinated based on client needs and staff availability, offering a highly flexible schedule. Primary service hours align with after-school (afternoon/evenings) and weekends with expanded schedules during school breaks/summer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to youth with complex special needs in their homes, fostering a positive and enriching environment.
- Implement individualized care plans developed in collaboration with Care Coordinators and families so support client needs and goals.
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, feeding, and mobility, while maintaining the dignity, respect, and safety of each individual.
- Engage in therapeutic, educational, and recreational activities designed to support growth and development.
- Monitor and document behavioral changes, concerns, and progress, reporting to the relevant care team as required.
- Collaborate with families and providers to ensure comprehensive care and support.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals by following established protocols, developing strategies, and adapting in the moment as needed.
- Continuously update skills and knowledge through training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in caregiving or special education preferred.
- Previous experience working with youth with special needs, particularly in a complex care setting, is highly recommended.
- Strong interpersonal and open communication skills, with the ability to connect with young individuals and their families as well as management.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward care and support.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage time and resources.
- Must be able to pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license.
- CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained upon employment.
