What is a Direct Support Professional (DSP)?

A mentor who supports youth with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) in their home or at activities in the community. This role is great for people who enjoy helping kids grow, learn, and build confidence in the community. Because our youth love getting out and exploring, this position works best for someone who can drive and has access to a reliable car.

If you’ve supported a child, sibling, or loved one with daily routines, communication, or personal care — your experience is incredibly valuable here. If you’re exploring psychology, education, ABA, social work, or human services, this role provides strong hands‑on experience.

We provide in person and virtual training, clear expectations, and ongoing coaching so you always feel prepared.

    Typical Responsibilities

Maintaining support for a minimum of 2 participants

Engaging in fun, structured community activities (parks, library, YMCA, outings) (mileage reimbursement provided)

Helping youth build independence and confidence

Following clear behavior‑support strategies and safety plans

Providing support in a one to one or small group setting depending on the service

    Requirements

Want to make a meaningful impact in a youth’s life — and grow your skills along the way.

Driver’s license + reliable transportation - our youth love getting out into the community

Comfortable supporting youth with intellectual/developmental disabilities and providing basic personal care depending on the youth’s needs

    Strong communication, patience, and follow‑through

Experience in caregiving, childcare, or supporting a loved one is a plus

Willing to travel 30 minutes to a participant's home

    Part‑Time → Full‑Time Pathway Available

You’ll start part‑time while building your caseload. If you want full‑time hours, you can transition to 30 hours/week once matched with additional youth. Most staff reach full‑time within 60 days but staying part‑time is also an option.
