    Job Description

     

    POSITION SUMMARY: Homeless Street Outreach- St. Petersburg

    This is a professional advanced case management position that will work in partnership with local law enforcement personnel providing case management, crisis counseling and supportive interventions to families and individuals who are living homeless, housing unstable and at risk of becoming homeless. Work involves outreach, assessments, facilitating access to emergency shelter, case management services, community resources, community education, and application of psychotherapeutic and prevention practices.

    This position will work closely with other service providers, law enforcement, street outreach teams and funders to provide comprehensive services in the community.

    The worker is an employee of Directions for Living however much of the service will be provided in the community while partnering with law enforcement. Homeless families and individuals will be outreached on the streets, at emergency shelters, other service provider's locations, businesses, and private homes. Hours will be flexible and occasional evening and weekend work will be required at the discretion of the homeless services supervisor.

    • Physically find individuals and/or families whom are homeless or living in an environment unfit for habitation.
    • Must be computer literate and be proficient in Outlook, Excel spreadsheets, and Microsoft Word. Must be able to work proficiently in a Windows environment and be able to learn other software applications quickly. Must be able to use Telehealth platform for service delivery if and when appropriate to do so.
    • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field required, with two years' experience in Homeless Services preferred.
    • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities working with people who live with a mental illness, substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder

    Directions for Living is an essential services provider. All Directions for Living employees must be willing and able to provide vital support and essential services to the people that we serve in the event of an emergency, pandemic or other disaster situation. Essential employees may be required to work in the field, be "on call" and/or be available and able to work remotely providing telehealth services depending on the needs of the individual being served.
