  • Responsibilities

    The Hotel Director of Engineering leads the maintenance and operations of a property's physical facilities. They are responsible for overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, managing the engineering staff, ensuring regulatory and safety compliance, and directing preventive maintenance to protect the property asset and enhance the guest experience. Responsibilities: • Facility Maintenance: Ensure optimum working order of all building structures, grounds, kitchen equipment, laundry, swimming pools, and utility systems. • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor the engineering and maintenance staff to ensure maximum productivity and service delivery. • Budgeting & Financials: Develop and administer the department’s operating budget, control repair and maintenance (R&M) expenses, and manage capital project costs. • Compliance & Safety: Enforce adherence to local, state, federal, and brand standards regarding OSHA, ADA, life-safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, sprinklers), and hotel security. • Preventative Maintenance: Implement and continually improve programs to prevent equipment breakdowns, prolong asset life, and reduce guest room maintenance issues. • Energy & Sustainability: Monitor utility consumption and pioneer initiatives to improve energy management and environmental sustainability. Qualifications: • Experience: Typically 5 or more years of hands-on, progressive leadership experience in hospitality maintenance (e.g., previous Chief Engineer role). • Technical Expertise: Working knowledge of building trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and carpentry. • Administrative Skills: Proficiency with checkbook accounting, building management systems (BMS), preventative maintenance software, and Microsoft Office. • Certifications: Vocational schooling, military training, or specialized technical/trade certifications are highly preferred. • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, organizational abilities, and effective communication to coordinate seamlessly with other hotel departments like Housekeeping and Front Desk.
