Director Of Operations - Professional Law Firm Administrator
We are looking for a Director of Operations / Professional Law Firm Administrator (DOO/PLA) to work directly with the Managing Partner to run the day-to-day operations of the firm. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on performance management, operational excellence, and holding our team accountable to the results that drive firm growth. We need a DOO/PLA who is well-versed in workflow and project management, who deeply understands employee engagement, who is metrics-driven and KPI-obsessed, and who is not afraid to have difficult conversations. Above all, we need someone who will proactively own productive utilization of the legal team, holding attorneys and paralegals accountable to their performance targets and driving the team to perform at the highest level. We need a bona fide DOO/PLA who has experience running a firm and building operational systems in a professional services environment. This role requires demonstrated experience managing operations at a law firm or similar professional services business at the director level or above, not office management or lower-level experience. The compensation is a base salary of $140,000 – $155,000 (commensurate with experience) plus a target bonus of 15% based on legal staff productivity and completion of operations initiatives. Responsibilities: The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Firm across operations, human resources, facilities, and technology. Although the DOO/PLA will not supervise substantive legal work, the primary focus of this role is performance management of the team, including owning productive utilization across the legal team, proactively monitoring attorney and paralegal performance against targets, identifying gaps early, and having the direct conversations necessary to close them. The DOO will also coordinate with department leaders to manage the performance of the marketing, sales, and finance functions and work closely with the CEO on operational problem-solving and decision-making.We need someone with the experience to keep the Firm’s needs in the forefront and work closely with the CEO and leadership on strategy, policy, problem-solving, and decision-making. Qualifications: You must be able to show evidence of your prior success with: • Managing teams of 10+ people • Employee engagement, leadership, and coaching • Employee recruiting, selection, hiring, onboarding, training, development, and offboarding • Managing a team’s performance and productivity, including tracking performance against targets, identifying underperformance early, and driving accountability through direct and constructive conversations • Firm-wide systems management and process refinement to ensure matters are handled appropriately so that client needs are met, legal and ethical requirements are met, and clients receive excellent service • Firm-wide technology stack management, data integrity, assessment of new features and tools, and successful integration into operational procedures We care about skills and experience.
