Job Title: Director of Construction for CORG Management Group Department: Construction/Operations Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO) / Vice President of Operations / CEO Location: Columbia, SC FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
The Director of Construction oversees all aspects of construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. The Director will lead a team of project managers, superintendents, and field staff and will work closely with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the construction department, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and resource allocation.
Oversee the planning and execution of all construction projects from start to finish.
Collaborate with estimating, pre-construction, and design teams to develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
Monitor project progress and provide leadership in solving project-related issues.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations, building codes, and company standards.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and construction forecasts.
Implement best practices, tools, and systems to drive operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
Prepare and present progress reports to executive leadership and stakeholders.
Evaluate construction methods and recommend improvements in efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
Government Construction/Commercial background a MUST
10+ years of progressive experience in construction management, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven track record of managing large-scale construction projects ($10M+).
Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and technology.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
Proficient in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera).
OSHA certification or other safety credentials preferred.
Working Conditions:
Primarily office-based with frequent travel to job sites.
Must be able to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and respond quickly to job site issues.
Salary Range:
$100, 000-$115,000 based on experience.
