    Director of Design

    Minneapolis, MN - Hybrid | Direct-Hire | $125k–$150k

    Join an employee-owned workplace design consultancy that provides an integrated approach of architectural products, furniture, technology, and professional services. This senior leadership role is built for someone who wants to coach and scale a high-performing design team while still staying connected to client work. The Director of Design will spend roughly 70% of their time leading people, processes, and strategy, and 30% contributing to complex projects and key client engagements. You’ll partner closely with Sales and executive leadership to elevate the client experience across workplace, commercial, higher education, and civic projects.

    Director of Design Responsibilities

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a design team ranging from interns to senior designers.
    • Set priorities, delegate workload, and ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables.
    • Serve as a senior client-facing leader for presentations, programming, and key design discussions.
    • Collaborate with Sales on scope definition, staffing, project strategy, and billings.
    • Oversee department planning, resource allocation, and performance management.
    • Drive process improvements, QA standards, and operational excellence
    • Support business development efforts and major project pursuits
    • Maintain high-level product and industry knowledge, including customizable furniture systems.
    • Lead design and specification for projects
    • Foster a collaborative, values-driven culture

    Director of Design Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architectural Design, or related field
    • 3+ years of people leadership experience within a design or dealership environment
    • 8+ years of professional experience in interior design; a background with workplace design and systems furniture is necessary.
    • A background working in a furniture dealership is required
    • Strong client presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills
    • Experience with systems furniture and complex, configurable product lines
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and specification software; CET experience ideal
    • Excellent delegation, time management, and problem-solving abilities
