Title: Director of Development
Summary of Duties: Works with the Executive Director to coordinate annual fund effort. Collaborates in setting and meeting overall development goals. Works closely with Director and Board to develop individual major donor prospects and increase contributions overall. Conducts research on prospective individual and corporate donors. Coordinates stewardship, education, solicitation, and acknowledgement of all donors. Develops appropriate outreach to donors through direct mail, phone campaigns, cultivation events and face-to-face solicitation. Researches, writes and coordinates foundation grant efforts. Develops and writes new and existing governmental and private grants. Coordinates special events by providing support and working with volunteer leadership. Continuously maintains and ensures donor confidentiality.
Accountability: Executive Director
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 1 - 3 years of fundraising experience. Skills required include computer literacy including word processing and spreadsheet proficiency (Windows based platform), prior use of fundraising database (we use Bloomerang), strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work independently and accurately, to handle confidential information and meet deadlines. Fundraising generalist with multiple skill sets preferred.
Duties:
Develops and secures new and existing grant applications from government and private sources.
Develops and maintains an annual fund solicitation and report schedule; prepares all direct mail pieces including solicitations and acknowledgements.
Assists Board with the integration of special event fundraising and annual fund. We currently have 3 fundraisers, a Coldest Night of the Year Walk, a Golf Tournament and an Annual Dinner.
Actively works with Executive Director and Board to integrate marketing efforts with development to ensure maximum exposure and fundraising opportunities.
Performs prospect research on individuals and recommends solicitation strategies.
Actively participates in program planning and developing the yearly development schedule.
Assists with the evaluation and implementation of donor perquisite strategies – particularly for corporations and foundations
Works with volunteers to secure annual gifts, host cultivation events and conduct face-to-face solicitations.
Coordinates efforts of volunteers responsible for special events. Provides leadership and resources necessary to reach goals.
Researches new and existing foundation sources for general and restricted funding.
Maintains all donor files and records.
Coordinates efforts with Volunteer/PR Director
Works with Insurance Carrier to get insurance certificates for grants and funders.
Assures Corporate Compliance and investigates as necessary
Other duties as assigned
Availability: Most days will be 9-5 but will be required to work nights and weekends as required.
