    About the Role

    We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Director of Development to join our team. This role will focus on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects with the capacity to give $10,000 or more to support [Hospital Name]’s priorities. You will collaborate closely with physicians to drive Grateful Patient fundraising initiatives and work alongside senior leadership to advance the Hospital’s mission.

    Reporting to the Sr. Director, Major Gifts, and collaborating with the SVP, this position requires a strong blend of relationship management, analytical skills, and fundraising expertise.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage a portfolio of 100–150 individual donors capable of making gifts of $10,000+, with an emphasis on $100k+ gifts.
    • Guide donors through the full cycle of identification, cultivation, solicitation, communication, and stewardship.
    • Identify new donor prospects in collaboration with Sr. Director, Major Gifts, SVP, senior staff, physicians, and Board volunteers.
    • Meet regularly with physician partners to advance grateful patient fundraising opportunities.
    • Cultivate new and existing donors via in-person visits, phone calls, written communications, and stewardship activities.
    • Solicit and secure gifts from new prospects and current major gift donors.
    • Prepare compelling proposals, donor communications, and stewardship reports.
    • Collaborate with Foundation Board of Directors to engage donors as recommended by leadership.
    • Support the planning and execution of cultivation events, including guest lists and event briefings.
    • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of hospital programs and capital priorities to effectively articulate funding needs.
    • Accurately record all donor activity and communications in the donor database (RE NXT) in a timely manner.
    • Adhere to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • 5–10 years of development or related experience in a nonprofit setting; hospital experience preferred.
    • Strong writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven success in managing major gift portfolios and securing significant donations.
    • Ability to cultivate relationships with high-level donors, physicians, and senior leaders.
    • Familiarity with donor databases (RE NXT experience preferred).
