    Position Overview

    Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Development & Philanthropy is the senior fundraising leader driving philanthropic growth and helping move the organization from approximately $5.5M to $10M in annual revenue over the next three years. This is a lead by doing role. The Director will spend about 75% of time acquiring, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and mega donors, and about 25% of time leading key development functions and building the team in partnership with the CEO.

    This position leads the Development Department, directly managing the Grants Manager and the Senior Philanthropy Advisor. This leader will carry a personal portfolio that includes major and mega donors transitioned from the CEO, along with new prospects.

    Key Responsibilities

    Grants strategy and quality control

    Manage the Grants Manager and set strategy for a grants calendar aligned to Reconciliation Services priorities.

    Review high value submissions, ensure strong coordination with programs and finance, and uphold compliance and reporting timelines.

    Corporate sponsorships and institutional relationships

    Manage the Senior Philanthropy Advisor who leads corporate sponsorships and assigned donor portfolios.

    Set sponsorship growth strategy, renewal discipline, and strong sponsor stewardship tied to RS mission and outcomes.

    Legacy and planned giving

    Lead the legacy giving program, including messaging, prospect identification, and advisor relationships as needed.

    Build planned giving stewardship practices and track commitments and pipeline.

    Hike Run for Reconciliation event

    Assemble and lead a cross functional staff and volunteer team to run the November event.

    Set fundraising targets, sponsor strategy integration, and a post event stewardship plan that drives retention and upgrades.

    Donor communications coordination

    Set strategy for donor communications and campaigns in partnership with the Marketing and Social Media Manager who reports to the COO.

    Ensure communications support donor acquisition, retention, upgrades, and stewardship across digital, social, and traditional channels.

    Education, Experience, and Skills

    Demonstrated success closing major and mega gifts, including prospecting and pipeline building.

    Strong reputation and credible relationships with major and mega donors, Kansas City relationships strongly preferred.

    Ability to partner closely with a CEO and engage board members in fundraising.

    Experience building systems for moves management, forecasting, stewardship, and campaign execution.

    Strong writing and communication skills and a commitment to disciplined follow through.

    CRM proficiency, Salesforce preferred.
