The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Virginia's horse industry, as well as knowledge of how to leverage marketing, outreach, and partnerships to promote and protect the Virginia horse industry.
Strategic Leadership and Planning
- Develop and implement the Board’s strategic plan in alignment with its mission to promote the Commonwealth’s equine industry.
Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations
- Working with the VHIB grant manager to develop the budget, financial oversight, and resource allocations to ensure fiscal responsibility and organizational sustainability
Board Support and Governance
- Assist onboarding new Board members.
- Support the Board by preparing agendas, reports, and materials for Board meetings, ensuring informed decision-making by the Board.
Community and Industry Outreach
- Promote the economic and cultural significance of the horse industry
- Develop partnerships with educational institutions, agricultural organizations and tourism boards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree required (Marketing, Communications, Agriculture, Business, or related field preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
- Must be comfortable commuting across Virginia and driving in high-traffic regions (e.g., Northern Virginia, Richmond).
- Event planning and/or event management experience
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This is a full-time contractual position with a flexible hybrid structure, as approved by the Board of Directors.
- Travel across the Commonwealth is required, including some weekends.
The Director will work directly on behalf of the Board. This individual will serve as the Board’s primary liaison, point of contact, and champion of its mission.
