    Job Title: Director of Facilities

    Location: Pacific Northwest

    Company Overview: Our client is a critical access hospital offering many service lines and a high level of care, which is unique for its size. As an independently owned organization, decisions are made locally, providing a significant advantage. The hospital prides itself on a strong leadership team and a supportive work environment. The surrounding community, with a population of about 25,000-30,000 is ideal for individuals who appreciate the outdoors, offering activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, and skiing.

    Position Overview: Seeking a highly motivated and engaged Director of Facilities to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the hospital's physical environment. This crucial role involves managing significant expansion and remodeling projects, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards, and fostering a collaborative culture within the facilities department and across the organization. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader looking for a long-term commitment to both the hospital and the community.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Leading and managing expansion plans, including a new wing with five new operating rooms and a second-floor shell for med-surg.
    Overseeing remodeling projects, such as reconfiguring backspace where operating room equipment moved, and expanding the radiology operation.
    Managing Environmental Services (EVS) and laundry services.
    Heavy involvement with safety protocols and initiatives.
    Working with physicians and other hospital leaders to design systems that benefit the hospital and surgeons.
    Managing budgets and overseeing equipment replacement, including the upcoming acquisition of a da Vinci system within the year.
    Working with crews and managers, and delegating responsibilities effectively.

    Key Qualifications and Skills:

    • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly a hospital environment, is critical.
    • Proven experience with expansion plans and leading large-scale projects, demonstrating strong project management skills.
    • Exceptional leadership abilities to guide staff, introduce new methods, and gain buy-in for new approaches from a long-tenured team.
    • Ability to develop strong partnerships and collaborate effectively with other departments and the leadership team, including the CFO, CEO, and operating room manager.
    • A proactive approach to maintaining and improving hospital operations.
    • Experience working with various machinery, electronics, and plumbing.
    • High momentum and motivation for the job, with a desire for a long-term career rather than a short-term role or a position near retirement.
    • Strong communication skills to work effectively with diverse groups within the hospital.

    Team and Reporting Structure:

    This role reports directly to the CFO. The Director of Facilities is one step below executive-level roles. Key stakeholders for collaboration include CFO, CEO, the Environmental Services Manager, Laundry Services, the Safety Department, the Operating Room Manager, physicians, and various crews and managers within the facilities department.

    Key Priorities in the First Six Months:

    • Developing a strong partnership with the CFO, and aligning on a shared vision for the facilities department.
    • Successfully managing and guiding the ongoing expansion projects, including the five new operating rooms and the second-floor shell for med-surg.

    Challenges and Opportunities:

    This role offers exciting opportunities, including leading interesting projects like remodeling backspaces, moving radiology, expanding operations, and overseeing the installation of a da Vinci robot within the year. The hospital's independent ownership allows for local decision-making and a more personal approach compared to larger systems.

    Candidate Profile:

A dynamic personality is important for implementing new ideas and gaining staff buy-in. The candidate must be highly motivated, engaged, and looking for a long-term "home." Experience in a hospital healthcare setting, particularly with expansion plans and project management, is essential. Familiarity with managing budgets and delegating tasks is also crucial. Candidates nearing retirement or those who are not fully engaged would not be ideal. The hospital also prefers candidates with ties to the area or a genuine desire to live in a smaller, outdoor-oriented community.
