Position Summary
Reconciliation Services is seeking a highly capable, non-profit experienced, Director of Finance (Hands on Controller) to lead day-to-day financial operations and serve as a key thought partner to the CFO. This is a hands-on, working manager role responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and strong reporting while strengthening the systems and processes behind the work.
The ideal candidate is practical, accountable, and solutions-oriented—someone who can stabilize and improve accounting operations today while helping position the organization for long-term sustainability and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations (hands-on leadership)
Lead and perform core accounting functions: general ledger, AP, AR, reconciliations, and payroll coordination
Improve workflows, documentation, internal controls, and audit readiness
Ensure timely, accurate financial information and compliance with nonprofit standards
May supervise finance support staff as needs evolve
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Lead monthly close and prepare financial statements and reporting packages
Support CFO and Board reporting, budget-to-actuals, and variance analysis
Identify trends, risks, and opportunities; translate financial data into actionable insight
Fund Accounting, Compliance & Audit Support
Track restricted/unrestricted funds and strengthen grant financial tracking
Support audit preparation and external reviews
Support compliance, internal controls, and risk mitigation practices
Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning Support
Assist with organizational budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
Help surface financial risks early and support long-term planning
Financial Infrastructure & Cross-Department Support
Strengthen financial systems, policies, and procedures to support growth
Partner with leaders across the organization to improve financial processes and decision-making

Strong technical accounting skills with an ownership mindset
Ability to execute detailed work and improve systems/processes
Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
Clear communicator who can work effectively with non-financial leaders
Comfort working in a growing, mission-driven nonprofit; maturity and sound judgment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
5–9 years of progressive accounting experience preferred
Experience managing accounting operations required
Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred; fund accounting preferred
Experience working in QuickBooks Online preferred
Audit support experience preferred
Experience improving financial systems/processes and supporting budgeting/planning preferred
Prior supervision experience helpful, not required
