The Central Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) has been a trusted leader in local philanthropy for nearly 60 years. In 2024, CVCF established Health Equity as a new programmatic pillar and has since built partnerships across sectors and emerged as a regional convener focused on addressing health disparities and improving access to care throughout Central California. We are currently accepting applications for our Director of Health Equity position to build upon this foundation and lead efforts to increase awareness of regional health disparities, build cross-sector partnerships, influence public policy, and secure investments that improve health outcomes for historically underserved communities. This is a full-time individual contributor leadership position responsible for advancing health equity initiatives throughout California’s Central Valley. We are seeking candidates whose professional, educational, and/or lived experiences have provided a strong understanding of public health, healthcare systems, community organizing, nonprofit leadership, public policy, and social justice. The ideal candidate would be deeply committed to advancing racial, social, and economic equity and possesses the ability to translate vision into action.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Advance policies, programs, and investments that improve health outcomes and healthcare access across the Central Valley.
- Collaborate with community leaders, elected officials, healthcare organizations, and other stakeholders to address the impacts of systemic inequities, historical disinvestment, and barriers to opportunity.
- Advocate at the local, state, and federal levels to position the Central Valley for increased investment in community wellness, public health, and healthcare initiatives.
- Build and strengthen relationships with community-based organizations, healthcare providers, public agencies, philanthropic partners, and business leaders.
- Identify and pursue opportunities that increase the capacity of local organizations to access and benefit from public and private investments.
- Support initiatives that create workforce development, employment, and economic opportunities within underserved communities.
- Partner with CVCF’s Asset Development team on fund development strategies and write grants to further build out CVCF’s health equity initiative.
- Support the Impact Team in embedding racial, economic, and social equity principles across all collective impact initiatives.
- Contribute to organizational health equity strategy by advancing CVCF’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities
- Evaluate current and emerging policies, programs, and investments affecting community health and healthcare access.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, briefings, and other communications for internal and external audiences.
- Represent CVCF at conferences, convenings, and public forums related to health equity and community development.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, work, and lived experience required; Master’s or related advanced degree preferred.
- 7-10 years of experience leading public health, wellness, healthcare, or related community initiatives, and building sustainable programs.
- Must live within one of these counties within the Central Valley: Fresno, Kings, Madera, Tulare, or Merced.
- Proven track record of achieving performance goals and delivering results.
- Demonstrable success in grant writing and creating targeted fund development plans.
- Experience leading, motivating, mentoring, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, while fostering a positive team culture.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present progress, outcomes, and impact to funders, donors, Board members, policymakers, and community partners.
- Experience in the nonprofit and/or philanthropic sector, with community-based, advocacy, health, or healthcare organizations preferred.
- Demonstrable project management expertise across planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrable ability to integrate data into program planning and to inform investment strategies.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of CVCF.
- Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position offers a competitive salary between $130,000 - $150,000 annually with a generous benefits plan including Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Holiday Pay, Vacation Pay, Sick Time, Bereavement Leave, and 403(b) with Company match.
