    About the Role

    We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead and grow HR practices for a fast-paced, multi-discipline construction and site development company. The ideal candidate will be a strategic HR partner and a hands-on implementer, supporting both field and office personnel in a safety-focused, performance-driven environment.

    This role includes HR operations, compliance, recruiting, employee relations, and culture development with a strong emphasis on aligning people practices to organizational goals and operational excellence.

    Key Responsibilities

    HR Strategy & Leadership
    • Partner with senior leadership to align HR strategy with business goals

    • Provide leadership and coaching to managers on HR matters

    • Serve as the primary HR advisor across all departments, especially field operations

    Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
    • Lead recruiting efforts for skilled craft, operations, administrative and corporate positions

    • Build proactive talent pipelines and strong recruiting processes

    • Develop effective onboarding and orientation programs

    Employee Relations & Performance Management
    • Act as a trusted resource for employee concerns and conflict resolution

    • Implement performance management processes, annual reviews, and development plans

    • Provide guidance on corrective action and coaching

    HR Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws

    • Maintain and update HR policies and the employee handbook

    • Partner with safety and operations teams to integrate HR compliance with jobsite requirements

    Compensation, Benefits & HR Administration
    • Oversee benefit administration including enrollment, changes, and communication

    • Support compensation structure analysis and market benchmarking

    • Manage HR systems, employee records, and reporting

    Culture, Engagement & Retention
    • Champion initiatives that reinforce organizational values and promote engagement

    • Develop retention strategies for operations and corporate team members

    • Support employee recognition programs and internal communication

    Core Competencies & Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

    • 5+ years of HR experience with progressive responsibilities

    • Strong working knowledge of HR compliance and employment law

    • Experience in construction, heavy civil, or industrial environments is preferred

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills

    • Ability to partner effectively with leaders and frontline staff

    Preferred:

    • HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)

    • Experience developing HR systems and processes for growing organizations

    • Exposure to HRIS platforms and applicant tracking systems
