Position Summary

An expanding telecommunications infrastructure organization is seeking a Director of OSP Engineering to oversee the planning, design, and permitting of fiber network infrastructure. This leader will guide a team responsible for developing scalable network designs that support continued broadband expansion across multiple markets.

The role requires a strategic leader who can build effective engineering processes, maintain strong relationships with municipalities and regulatory bodies, and ensure engineering activities support construction timelines and long-term network performance.

Responsibilities

Lead all outside plant engineering functions including fiber network design, field engineering, drafting, and permitting coordination.

Manage and develop an engineering organization consisting of internal staff and third-party design partners.

Ensure engineering deliverables are accurate, complete, and aligned with construction schedules.

Develop and maintain a pipeline of engineering work to support ongoing network build programs.

Oversee planning and management of fiber capacity and network routing.

Implement processes that maintain consistency, quality, and efficiency across engineering deliverables.

Build relationships with municipalities, utilities, and other governing bodies to support permitting and right-of-way approvals.

Coordinate closely with construction, operations, and vendor teams to ensure smooth project execution.

Monitor key operational metrics related to engineering output, project readiness, and cost efficiency.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for engineering staff.

Team Leadership

The Director will lead a growing engineering organization consisting of design engineers, permitting professionals, and administrative support personnel. The team includes both direct and indirect reports supporting the overall outside plant engineering function.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in telecommunications, outside plant engineering, or fiber network construction

Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams and supporting large-scale infrastructure deployments

Strong understanding of fiber network architecture and outside plant design principles

Experience working with permitting processes and municipal stakeholders

Ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast-paced environment

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline

Experience with engineering and network design platforms such as GIS, CAD, ESRI, Vetro, or similar tools
