Director of Operations Location: Pensacola, FL | In-Office (5 Days Preferred) Compensation: $125,000 – $140,000 DOE Employment Type: Full-Time
About This Opportunity
Our client is a growing, DBE-certified geospatial services firm delivering professional land surveying, LiDAR, GIS, aerial mapping, and photogrammetry to State DOTs and engineering firms across the Southeast. With almost 40 employees and consistent year-over-year revenue growth, they are adding a Director of Operations to serve as the operational backbone of the business. This is a senior leadership role — you will report directly to the owner, serve as a peer to the Survey Manager and BD lead, and be expected to bring structure, accountability, and financial discipline to a firm that is scaling fast.
What You'll Own
- Direct leadership of a team of 10–12, including CAD technicians, survey techs, compilers, and operations staff
- P&L management and financial performance — you understand the numbers and drive them
- Job costing on active projects — tracking, flagging, and correcting margin before it's a problem
- Workflow and capacity planning across disciplines
- Process standardization — you build systems that scale and hold people accountable to them
- Vendor, subcontractor, and resource management
- Collaboration with the Survey Manager and BD lead on project pipeline and resource allocation
- Direct interface with the owner on financial reporting, staffing decisions, and strategic priorities
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of operations management experience, with a meaningful track record inside a survey, mapping, geospatial, or engineering/consulting firm — this is non-negotiable
- Demonstrated P&L ownership and hands-on job costing experience in a project-based environment
- A leader who can be the adult in the room — someone the owner trusts to make decisions, manage people, and protect margin
- Proficiency with project management and job costing platforms standard to the industry
- Strong organizational and communication skills — you can manage up, down, and across without drama
- DOT project experience is a plus, not a requirement
- No licensure required
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary $125,000 – $140,000 depending on experience
- Performance bonus up to 20% tied to company results
- 4 weeks PTO
- Health insurance — 85% employer-paid
- 401(k) — eligible after 1 year
