The Director of Racquets is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all racquet sports programming, operations, and member engagement at the Club/Academy. This includes the strategic development, organization, and delivery of tennis and pickleball programs, with a focus on excellence in coaching, event management, community engagement, and member satisfaction. The Director will supervise coaching staff, coordinate leagues and tournaments, manage budgets, and drive growth by creating innovative programs that serve players of all ages and skill levels. Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Management
Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive tennis and pickleball programs for juniors, adults, and seniors at all skill levels.
Coordinate clinics, private lessons, leagues, ladders, socials, and tournaments, ensuring programs are engaging and inclusive.
Introduce innovative formats (e.g., live ball, cardio tennis, DUPR-rated pickleball events) to enhance participation.
Coaching & Instruction
Provide high-level instruction in both tennis and pickleball, ensuring coaching excellence.
Mentor and train assistant coaches to maintain consistent teaching methods and service standards.
Create player development pathways for both recreational and competitive players.
Event & Tournament Direction
Act as Tournament Director for club competitions, USTA-sanctioned tennis events, and pickleball leagues/tournaments.
Partner with local and national associations (USTA, DUPR, PPA, APP, etc.) to host high-profile events.
Ensure professional standards in scheduling, format, officiating, and awards.
Community Engagement & Member Relations
Build strong relationships with members and actively engage the community to promote racquet sports.
Develop partnerships with schools, community centers, and sponsors to expand outreach.
Create fun and social experiences around racquet sports to foster a welcoming environment.
Operations & Administration
Manage racquets department budget, including payroll, program revenue, and expenses.
Oversee court reservations, equipment, and facility maintenance to ensure safe, high-quality playing conditions.
Collaborate with the marketing team to promote programs and grow participation.
Monitor industry trends to keep programs competitive and innovative.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in tennis and/or pickleball program management, preferably in a club, academy, or resort setting.
Certified by recognized organizations (USTA, PTR, USPTA for tennis; IPTPA or PPR for pickleball).
Strong background as both a player and coach in tennis and pickleball.
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of coaches and staff.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
