Tempo by Hilton Del Mar is seeking a dynamic, high-performing Opening Director of Sales to lead our proactive sales efforts and position the hotel as the preferred choice for business and leisure travelers in the Del Mar area. As the Opening Director of Sales, you will be responsible for driving top-line revenue by identifying, pursuing, and securing business across all market segments. You’ll lead the development and execution of strategic sales plans, cultivate strong client relationships, and ensure the hotel maintains a strong presence in the local market. Key Responsibilities
Business Development
Spend 50% or more of your time outside the office prospecting and nurturing business in the local market.
Establish and maintain relationships with key accounts, corporate clients, and local organizations to drive business to the hotel.
Focus sales efforts during prime selling hours (10 AM – 3 PM) for maximum impact.
Conduct in-person client visits a minimum of 3 days per week to foster deeper partnerships.
Strategic Sales Leadership
Develop and execute comprehensive sales plans to achieve and exceed budgeted revenue goals.
Collaborate closely with Revenue Management and the General Manager to set pricing strategies and forecast performance.
Represent the property in all sales-related activities including tradeshows, networking events, and client functions.
Contract Negotiation & Account Management
Lead all aspects of the sales process including proposal development, presentation, and contract negotiation.
Ensure sales strategies are aligned with brand standards and hotel profitability goals.
Maintain a strong pipeline of leads and opportunities using company-provided tools and platforms.
Market Intelligence & Performance Tracking
Monitor local market trends, competitor performance, and economic indicators to identify opportunities and adjust strategies.
Maintain positive performance in STAR reports (Occupancy, ADR, RevPAR).
Provide regular reporting and feedback to senior leadership regarding sales progress and challenges.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of hotel sales leadership experience; experience in branded, upscale, or lifestyle properties preferred.
Demonstrated success in building business in competitive markets.
Strong negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with hotel sales systems, forecasting tools, and CRM platforms.
