Transportation Project Manager – Civil Infrastructure / Roadway Design

A nationally ranked, privately held engineering firm (ENR Top 100) with over 1,200 employees across the U.S. is expanding its Michigan team. Known for its collaborative culture and robust project pipeline, this firm specializes in civil engineering services and works closely with state DOTs on major infrastructure initiatives.

This Transportation Project Manager role is based in East Lansing, MI, and is part of a growing, well-supported regional office. The ideal candidate will be an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in MDOT roadway design and leadership potential to mentor junior staff and manage mid-sized transportation projects from concept to delivery.

Position: Transportation Project Manager
Compensation: $130,000–$155,000 base + 5% annual bonus + 9% 401(k) match
Location: Hybrid – East Lansing, Michigan (3–4 days onsite per week)

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage roadway/highway design projects from preliminary through final design stages.

• Mentor junior staff and support their technical and professional development.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, timely project deliverables.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with MDOT, municipalities, and county agencies.

• Contribute to strategic project pursuits, teaming arrangements, and staff planning.

• Develop project documentation including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports.

• Support proposal development and interface directly with clients as a technical lead.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required); advanced degree preferred.

• 10+ years of progressive experience delivering MDOT roadway projects.

• Active Michigan PE license (required).

• Proven leadership as a project manager or lead engineer on MDOT transportation projects.

• Proficient with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Must not currently work for RS Engineering (key client partner).
