Title: Director of Sales
Shift: Primarily on-site when not traveling; standard business hours
Travel: 1-2 weeks/month
Salary: $95,000 base salary plus profit sharing
Director of Sales Role:
This role leads global sales growth, market presence, and brand positioning for our client, a long-standing, specialized chemical manufacturer. The Director serves as a hands-on leader who actively manages a dynamic team, engages directly in complex sales efforts, and aligns consultative technical strategies with production capabilities to drive sustainable revenue and elevate the customer experience.
Director of Sales Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing sales team through active field observation and training
- Engage in hands-on business development, including attending high-stakes meetings with C-suite and owners to close complex sales
- Foster a culture of accountability and collaboration to ensure the sales team operates effectively
- Develop and execute sales and marketing strategies that drive revenue and profitability growth
- Utilize CRM systems as one of many strategic tools, avoiding over-reliance while ensuring data-driven performance
- Collaborate with internal operations, finance, and technical teams to align production capabilities with market demand
- Oversee digital marketing efforts, including website management, SEO, and promotional activities
- Manage and travel with sales managers to coach, observe, and provide strategic input in the field
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure revenue and profitability growth
- Penetrate existing accounts to maximize margins while reducing management time and costs
Director of Sales Reporting Relationships:
The Director of Sales reports to company leadership and oversees a team of sales and marketing professionals, including Sales Managers and the Customer Service Manager.
About You:
- Maintain a Bachelor’s degree, with advanced degrees or credentials considered a plus
- Possess a minimum of five years of sales and marketing experience, preferably in chemical manufacturing or distribution
- Hold at least two years of experience in a leadership role, ideally within a privately held company
- Exhibit proficiency with multiple CRM platforms and use them as a tool for strategic success rather than sole management
- Demonstrate a proven track record of training, developing, and effectively hiring sales talent
- Demonstrate a lifestyle and professional rhythm accustomed to regular travel
- Utilize effective, consultative negotiation skills to realize product value rather than relying on price-based selling
- Apply well-honed listening and problem-solving skills to overcome objections and close sales
- Display advanced PC skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and CRM environments
- Maintain a self-motivated, self-directed, and collaborative team-player mentality
- Commit to being on-site at the facility in Cleveland, OH during non-travel periods
- Travel domestically approximately 50% of the time with occasional international travel
