Lead Sterile Processing Excellence in a High-Volume Surgical Setting
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Sterile Processing to lead and oversee a large-scale sterile processing operation in a busy acute care hospital located in Asheville, North Carolina. Reporting directly to the VP of Perioperative Services, this critical leadership role ensures excellence in sterile processing services across multiple service lines including Endoscopy, OR, CVOR, L&D, and Ambulatory Clinics.
With oversight of 80+ FTEs and 7 Team Leads, the Director will drive strategic initiatives, operational efficiency, and continuous quality improvement, while maintaining the highest standards in infection control, instrumentation sterilization, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and daily operational oversight for the Sterile Processing Department.
Collaborate with the VP of Surgical Services to align departmental goals with hospital-wide objectives.
Supervise and mentor team leads and staff, ensuring professional development, proper staffing, and performance excellence.
Implement and monitor quality assurance programs for sterilization practices, regulatory compliance, and infection prevention.
Optimize sterile processing workflow through the use of SPM Workflow and industry best practices.
Manage department resources, budgeting, and equipment needs efficiently.
Partner with Perioperative Services and surgical departments to ensure seamless coordination and high-quality patient care.
Lead initiatives in staff orientation, continuing education, and competency validation.
Qualifications
Required Education & Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Nursing, or completion of a two-year Surgical Technology program.
Certification required: CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician).
IAHCSMM certification required.
Required Experience:
Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Central Sterile Processing within an acute care setting.
Strong technical knowledge of surgical instrumentation, aseptic techniques, and infection control standards.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with acute attention to detail.
Proficiency in computer systems and sterile processing technology platforms.
