Director of Warehouse & Operations
Job Overview The Director of Warehouse and Catering Operations provides strategic, hands-on leadership of all warehouse and logistical operations for Main Event Caterers and Monumental Food. This role ensures efficient inventory control, safe and compliant practices, and seamless event execution through close collaboration with internal departments.
In addition to warehouse management, this position provides executive oversight of the beverage program, including direct leadership of the Beverage Manager/Sommelier function. The Director ensures beverage strategy, procurement, inventory, and service standards align with the company’s luxury hospitality brand and financial objectives while maintaining the highest standards of quality, service, and professionalism at every level.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse & Logistics
Provide strategic oversight of all warehouse functions, including inventory, equipment, fulfillment, and logistics.
Ensure timely and accurate processing, staging, and delivery of catering orders, maintaining quality standards across all event types.
Design and implement warehouse workflows that maximize space utilization, accuracy, and efficiency.
Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs for inventory management, receiving, order fulfillment, and transportation logistics.
Monitor and manage warehouse and delivery labor costs to align with budgetary goals.
Oversee fleet operations: coordinate vehicle maintenance, manage usage schedules, and ensure drivers are properly trained and certified.
Maintain compliance with safety standards and health regulations (OSHA, local health departments, ABC regulations, etc.).
Event Operations & Departmental Coordination
Collaborate closely with Sales, Culinary, Beverage, and Finance departments to align operational capabilities with event goals and client expectations.
Serve as the point of contact for operational planning in high-profile or logistically complex events.
Participate in menu tastings, beverage tastings, event walk-throughs, and planning meetings to ensure operations and logistics are considered early in the process.
Ensure seamless integration of culinary and beverage execution, including bar builds, specialty installations, and large-scale service environments.
Beverage Program Leadership & Sommelier Oversight
Provide executive leadership and strategic direction to the Beverage Manager/Sommelier and bar operations teams.
Oversee wine, spirits, beer, and non-alcoholic beverage procurement, ensuring quality, cost control, and alignment with event concepts.
Partner with the Beverage Manager/Sommelier on curated wine lists, pairing recommendations, specialty cocktail development, and premium beverage experiences.
Maintain oversight of beverage inventory systems, including forecasting, allocation, storage conditions, rotation, and shrinkage control.
Ensure compliance with all alcohol service regulations, licensing requirements, and responsible service standards.
Analyze beverage cost percentages, margins, and revenue opportunities; implement strategies to optimize profitability without compromising guest experience.
Support staff education initiatives, including wine knowledge, service etiquette, product training, and responsible alcohol service certification.
Collaborate with vendors, distributors, and wineries to secure favorable pricing, allocations, and exclusive offerings.
Leadership & Team Development
Mentor, train, and lead warehouse, logistics, and beverage operations team members, including supervisors, sommeliers, and bar leadership.
Recruit and retain top talent, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities.
Promote cross-training between operations and beverage teams to enhance overall event execution.
Purchasing & Vendor Management
Oversee purchasing for warehouse, operations, and beverage programs, ensuring best pricing, availability, and quality.
Build and maintain strong relationships with beverage distributors, wineries, breweries, and specialty suppliers.
Maintain proper inventory levels across equipment, foodservice supplies, and beverage categories to ensure successful event fulfillment.
Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements to improve cost efficiency and product access.
General
Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations and company growth.
Champion a culture of hospitality, excellence, safety, and team collaboration across departments.
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive leadership experience in warehouse, logistics, catering/event operations, or hospitality management.
Demonstrated experience overseeing beverage programs, bar operations, or sommelier-led wine programs in a high-volume catering, hotel, restaurant, or event environment.
Advanced knowledge of wine, spirits, and beverage cost controls; sommelier certification (e.g., CMS, WSET) strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Proven ability to manage large teams and multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Strong operational planning, organizational, financial analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of alcohol beverage laws, ABC compliance, OSHA regulations, and local health codes.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and warehouse/inventory management systems; experience with beverage inventory platforms preferred.
