    A growing government contracting company located in Herndon is looking for a staff accountant to join its accounting and finance department. The company has recently implemented a new accounting system, and the successful candidate will display an eagerness to learn, take on additional responsibilities and be a strong contributor to the organization as it optimizes the use of the accounting system and puts in place documented processes and procedures. The candidate will work closely with employees at all levels of the organization and will report directly to the CFO.

    The Staff Accountant is responsible for the general ledger and the monthly close including but not limited to preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and flux analysis. The Staff Accountant will also be heavily involved in the day to day processing of multiple transactions including Vendor Invoices, Employee Expense Reports and the semi-monthly outsourced payroll.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Apply a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
    • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
    • Maintain balance sheet account reconciliations monthly
    • Receive, Accurately Code, Review and Process Accounts Payable and Employee Expense Reports in accordance with the company’s reporting structure.
    • Work with CFO and Senior Staff Accountant on processing outsourced payroll and ensure that the payroll reconciles to the labor distribution generated by the accounting system.
    • Respond to inquiries from the CFO regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
    • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
    • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
    • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    • 3+ years of experience in the accounting/financial reporting areas.
    • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance or Business management with an emphasis in Accounting required
    • Previous Experience using Web Based Enterprise Accounting Systems preferred.
    • Previous experience accounting for Government Contractors preferred, but not required.
    • Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel including Pivot Tables, Charts, Sorts and Filters and extracting information from Databases and using Excel to analyze results.
    • Strong verbal and written communication with ability to work with staff at all levels of the organization both within and outside of the finance and accounting staff.
    • Strong desire to take on additional responsibilities and able to look for processes that can be improved.
    • Ability to thrive in a changing environment where responsibilities and assignments will change as time goes on.
    • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
