  • Responsibilities

    We're looking for a proactive, independent, eager-to-learn candidate for our summer internship.  As a software engineering intern, you will be immersed in the Dispatch technology stack and will work alongside the engineering team to deliver new product features and bug fixes.   

    In addition to the normal development tasks, you’ll be part of the technical support team at Dispatch. You will gain in-depth knowledge of the Dispatch products and how they are used internally and by customers. You will use your knowledge of the products and systems to troubleshoot and solve technical issues.

    This is a temporary non-exempt role that reports to the Director of Engineering.  Summer interns will work 30-40 hours per week from May 24- August 20.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Executes all job duties in alignment with Dispatch’s core values, mission, and purpose

    • Collaborate closely with your teammates through code reviews to keep aligned and adhere to best coding practices

    • Deploy your projects to production frequently and monitor the results to ensure quality and positive outcomes

    • Field technical support issues that come in via chat and email and respond within an agreed-upon and communicated timeframe

    • Log all support issues in the support desk software and maintain a current status of issues at all times

    • Escalate issues that you cannot solve to the product and engineering teams

    • Communicate often the status of issues 

    • Contribute to product and technical knowledge in the form of knowledge bases, notes, documentation, etc.

    • Perform other duties as assigned

     

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Software Engineering or a related field at an accredited college or university

    • Solid understanding of software and application design, and development and project management principles

    • Software development experience or training in a programming language like Ruby On Rails, C#, Java, or PHP with a strong desire and interest to learn Ruby On Rails

    • Proactive, able to work independently, deal with ambiguity, and meet deadlines in a fast moving environment focused on results

    • Self-starter with strong work ethic, detail-oriented, reliable and flexible

    • Customer support experience, a positive attitude, and the drive to resolve support issues as quickly as possible

    • Strong interpersonal skills that will keep you productive on a fast moving team

    • A track record of learning new technologies on the fly and finding the right tool for the job

    • Bonus: Knowledge of React Native, iOS, Android, ElasticSearch, Google mapping and routing APIs.
