    Job Summary

    The mission of the Program Coordinator is to act as the lead for HIV & AIDS Prevention and Education Program (HAPEP). The main objective is to improve sexual health of people at risk of HIV & AIDS, reduce community risk factors, and prevent HIV in the Ventura County service area. Diversity Collective Ventura County aims to provide access to knowledge, tools, information, and resource support that people need to stay healthy to make positive change in their own lives and in their communities.

    This position is responsible for supporting program operations and reports directly to the Board Liaison. This position works as part of an integrated team that includes education, health, mental health, and fundraising. The person is a self-directed and plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of Diversity Collective.

    CANDIDATE PROFILE

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience/Linguistic Ability

    • High School degree for entry level College degree for intermediate to advance candidate; additional qualification as a Grant writer or
    • Proven experience as an administrative assistant, virtual assistant or office admin assistant for a minimum of 2-4 years
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

    Background

    • Must pass basic background check, including LiveScan clearance, civil and credit checks
    • Handle multiple tasks at one time and meet the required timeline.
    • Work successfully as part of a team, while under pressure
    • Operate and use all equipment necessary for office operation, phone, fax, computer
    • Able to sit for extended periods of time not to exceed 4 hours.
    • Work varied hours/days based on business needs
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Able to priorities tasks and work with minimal supervision
    • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
    • Responsibilities

    • Peer to Peer Outreach and Education
    • Plan and coordinate community events, workshops, and meetings related to HIV & AIDS related health for identified priority populations.
    • Coordinate HIV & AIDS services, including condom distribution activities, at the Community Resource Center and scheduled community events alongside community partners.
    • Assist in linking newly identified PLWHA to medical treatment and case management through referrals to community partners, educational resources, and peer support.
    • Implement peer-based one-on-one and group interventions emphasizing behavior modification and harm reduction among people living with HIV.
    • Develop DCVC-branded outreach and educational materials related to HIV & AIDS.
    • Refer individuals to the Community Advocate program and other DCVC programs, as needed.
    • Community Capacity Building
    • Promote program events, campaigns, resources, and health information through appropriate print, social media, and network channels of communication.
    • Recruiting, train, and oversee volunteers identifying within priority populations to support outreach, education, and advocacy events.
    • Network with community partners to establish referral processes, in order to increase the reach of DCVC programs into priority populations.
    • Assist in identifying community-based testing locations and the coordination of testing events, as needed.
    • Coordinate condom/resource distribution activities in locations frequented by people at increased risk of HIV & AIDS.
    • Identify and recruit training presenters for educational workshops and staff/volunteer development.
    • Monitor and oversee implementation/completion of assigned activities and prepares reports and/or documentation according to program, agency, funder, and licensing requirements.
    • Assist in data analysis for the program annual report, program information report (PIR) and agency annual self-assessment.
    • Work in partnership with parents of enrolled children and community partners.
    • Participate in staff development activities as required.
    • Serve on community committees if necessary.

    Requirements

    • Certified as an HIV & AIDS tester/counselor.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working within affected population.
    • 2-3 years’ experience organizing community events, workshops, and presentations for underserved and communities at risk of negative health disparities.
    • Extensive knowledge of HIV/STD prevention, infection, and transmission and care.
    • Working knowledge of trauma informed care, mandated reporting, and suicide risk for vulnerable populations including LGBTQ youth, transgender people of color, and individuals with disabilities.
    • Knowledge of local community resources and referrals related to HIV and AIDS, health care, social services, and basic needs.
    • Abilities to engage clients in a client centered manner and create effective referrals.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with diverse groups and individuals, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with men, women and gender non-binary individuals, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Demonstration ability to work effectively with men, women, and gender non-binary individuals of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, and behavioral patterns within a multicultural environment.
    • Connected to MSM community networks in Ventura County and Los Angeles area.
    • Demonstrate ability to facilitate one on one and group interactions.
    • Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed.
    • Demonstrated ability to appropriately communicate with both public, private, and government professionals.
    • Strong commitment to the mission, values, and strategic vision of the organization.
    • Participate in staff, committee, board meetings, local events, and training
    • Complete necessary documentation of services delivered, including but not limited to referrals, confidentiality agreements, expense requests/invoices to appropriate DCVC board representatives.
    • Communicate with Board of Directors liaison through email, voicemail, and regularly scheduled in person meetings and as requested.
    • Assist in necessary data entry, analysis, as well as the organization and storage of sensitive information (e.g., client appointments, records, evaluation data).
    • Assist in the development of policies and procedures that support HIV & AIDS interventions, including confidential communication with community partners and referral services.
    • Ensure all educational, outreach, & testing materials are stocked and ready for community events.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to sit for 4 hours at a time in a quiet environment
