    Veterinary Technician Job Summary

    Dix Hills Animal Hospital is seeking an organized, compassionate, and service-oriented veterinary technician to join our team and provide assistance to our 3 veterinarians. In this role, you will work directly with our animal patients, their owners, and our veterinary staff. The practice is newly renovated, quickly growing and emphasizes client education and pet wellness.

    Veterinary Technician Duties and Responsibilities

    Bring animals back to the exam room and perform an initial evaluation of their health and obtain a brief history from owner

    Handle basic care duties, including cleaning and dressing wounds, administering medication, collecting samples, and checking vitals

    Assist with diagnostic imaging and lab work, including blood tests, radiographs and analysis of urine samples

    Provide assistance to the veterinarian during surgeries and other procedures by sterilizing tools, stocking the exam and operating rooms, confirming that equipment is all working properly, monitoring anesthesia and patient vitals.

    Care for animals by feeding and watering, cleaning rooms and cages, and watching for signs of health problems

    Communicate with owners and families to inform and educate them about animal conditions and proper care

    Update patient files, review care plans, and handle other administrative duties as necessary

    Veterinary Technician Requirements and Qualifications

    1 year of experience in a veterinary technician role

    Clinical skills and an understanding of animal behavior and healthcare

    Passion for working with animals and their owners

    Interpersonal communication skills to communicate with owners and other veterinary staff

    Ability to prioritize and manage numerous different patient needs at one time

    Phlebotomy and intravenous catheter placement experience

    Anesthesia and patient monitoring experience

    Attention to detail in order to maintain accurate patient records

    Willingness to take direction

    Physical ability to restrain larger pets when necessary
