    Job Title: Dock Hand

    Department: Waterfront Operations

Reports To: General Manager / Fleet Captain

    Position Type: Seasonal / Part-Time

    Job Summary

The Chesapeake Yacht Club is seeking energetic, customer-service-oriented individuals to join our waterfront team as Dock Hands. As the first point of contact for members and visiting boaters, the Dock Hand plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and premium experience on our docks. This position balances active outdoor work—such as assisting with vessel docking, managing the fuel dock, and maintaining the facility—with event setup and high-level hospitality.

    Key Responsibilities

    Member Satisfaction & Hospitality

Deliver exceptional customer service, greeting members and guests.

Anticipate member needs and maintain a polite, professional, and helpful demeanor at all times.

    Waterfront & Fuel Dock Operations

Safely catch, tie, and secure vessels of various sizes arriving at the slips or fuel dock, adjusting lines for tides.

Operate the fuel dock safely, adhering to environmental regulations and club safety protocols during fueling operations.

Assist members with pump-out station operations.

    Event & Party Setup

Assist with the logistical setup and breakdown of club parties, regattas, and private events (e.g., moving tables and chairs, setting up tents, staging outdoor areas).

Work collaboratively with the Food & Beverage and maintenance teams to ensure event spaces are pristine before guests arrive.

    Dock Maintenance & Cleanliness

Conduct daily walkthroughs of the docks to ensure they are clean, free of debris, and safe for foot traffic (coiling stray hoses, checking dock lines, emptying trash receptacles).

Perform basic groundskeeping and preventative maintenance on the waterfront as assigned.

    Qualifications & Requirements

Comfort around water and basic knowledge of boating, knot-tying, and line-handling is a major plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, wind).

Strong communication skills and a team-player attitude.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.

Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, as these are our busiest times.

    Benefits & Perks

Competitive Hourly Wage + potential for tips from appreciative members.

Free Employee Meal from our club kitchen during shifts when the kitchen is open.

    Beautiful waterfront work environment.

Great opportunity to build networking connections within a premier private club community.
