ABOUT US: Pets First is an appointment-based urgent care/ER bridging the gap between general practice and traditional emergency hospitals. We offer low-cost hospitalization when appropriate and emergency dental care (with RVT-supported radiography and prophylaxis within RVT scope). We collaborate closely with board-certified veterinary specialists—criticalists, surgeons, internists, cardiologists, and dentists—to elevate patient outcomes and team learning.
SCHEDULE:
Soft Open: January 9, 2026 – June 2026
Operating Fri–Mon, 11:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. during soft open
Expansion: Transition to 5–7 days/week with the Grand Opening in June 2026
Opportunity for a fixed or rotating schedule at expansion, based on team preferences and hospital needs
COMPENSATION: $22–$30/hour to start, based on skills and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES
Exam-Room & Clinical Coordination (under DVM/RVT supervision)
Room patients and obtain thorough histories; capture vitals (TPR/weight/pain score) and update EMR
Scribe in real time during exams; enter orders, charges, and treatments accurately
Prepare the doctor and RVT for diagnostics/procedures; assist with patient flow and case prioritization
Coordinate estimates, consents, and discharge instructions; review with clients alongside the DVM/RVT
Arrange rechecks, imaging, external lab work, and referrals; ensure records are complete and sent
Client Communication & Phones
Answer phones and perform call triage using decision trees; schedule and set expectations with empathy
Provide clear explanations of diagnostics, treatment plans, and home-care (with DVM/RVT guidance)
Conduct timely follow-ups on results, recheck reminders, and post-visit welfare checks
Support issue resolution professionally, escalating to the DVM/RVT/Manager as appropriate
Operations & Team Support
Maintain accurate, timely EMR documentation, forms, and medical records transfers
Assist with inventory support (stocking, counts, expirations) and exam-room readiness
Uphold safety and compliance (OSHA/Cal-OSHA, radiation safety, privacy)
Contribute to a positive, dependable, team-first culture; participate in trainings and case reviews
QUALIFICIATIONS
Experience in veterinary client service, assistant, or medical scribe role preferred (GP, urgent care, ER)
Excellent communication, empathy, and service mindset; calm and organized under pressure
Strong EMR/computer proficiency; fast and accurate typing for live scribing
Comfortable learning basic clinical support tasks under supervision; low-stress handling fundamentals a plus
Able to lift ~40–50 lbs safely and stand for extended periods
Evening/weekend availability within the schedule above
