Legal Document Automation Consultant
Location: Dallas, TX (Uptown)
Compensation: Target range $75,000–$90,000+ (depends on experience and education, flexible)
Work Schedule: Full-time, 5 days/week onsite
Remote Options: None – this is an in-office role
About the Role
This is a niche legal-technology role focused on automating legal documents and streamlining workflows across practice groups. You’ll partner directly with attorneys to build, test, and deploy intelligent document templates. The ideal candidate has a background in transactional law, legal operations, or legal tech—paired with experience in automation logic using tools like Contract Express or HotDocs.
This role requires both legal acumen and technical curiosity—and is well-suited for someone with a JD, paralegal certification, or in-depth exposure to legal document workflows.
What You’ll Do
Collaborate directly with attorneys to automate standard forms and templates used in client-facing matters
Scope, build, test, and maintain intelligent legal templates using document automation platforms
Create user-friendly digital questionnaires to drive accurate, efficient document generation
Coach attorneys on markup best practices and template structuring
Translate legal language into structured logic for automation (if/then logic, conditional text, loops, etc.)
Own documentation, version control, and quality assurance
Track projects through internal systems and provide updates to stakeholders
Troubleshoot automation errors and provide creative coding fixes
Contribute to the strategic roadmap for automation initiatives across the firm
Ensure user access, security levels, and template libraries are organized for scalability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; J.D. or paralegal certificate strongly preferred
2+ years in a legal or legal tech environment (law firm, corporate legal, or ALSP)
Prior exposure to document automation platforms (Contract Express, HotDocs, or similar)
Expert-level Microsoft Word skills (styles, fields, cross-references, formatting logic)
Ability to break down complex legal docs into reusable components and apply logic
Excellent communication and documentation skills; able to teach, advise, and partner with legal teams
Comfort juggling multiple deadlines across diverse practice groups
Prior experience in template libraries, structured content, or forms workflow a plus
Willingness to work off-hours occasionally for high-priority deployments
