    The selected specialist must have the necessary skill set to perform PDF conversion work independently. The only training provided will relate to the use of the organization’s web content management system (Drupal).

    The consultant will be responsible for creating accessible PDFs in the morning and moving them into a designated folder for Quality Assurance. A Web Services team will conduct QA on the documents to ensure compliance and approve them. In the afternoons, the consultant will upload the previously approved files to Drupal.

    Responsibilities:

    • Remediation: Address accessibility issues in existing PDFs by tagging, adding alternative text, ensuring logical reading order, and making forms accessible.

    • Evaluation and Testing: Use tools such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA) and accessibility checkers to identify and document accessibility barriers.

    • Consultation: Advise content creators on how to create accessible documents from the start.

    • Training: Provide education on accessibility best practices and tools.

    • Staying Current: Remain informed about evolving accessibility laws, standards (e.g., WCAG, PDF/UA, Section 508), and industry best practices.

    • Documentation: Clearly record accessibility issues and the steps taken to resolve them.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in Accessibility Tools: Skilled in Adobe Acrobat Pro, CommonLook, and similar remediation tools.

    • Familiarity with Assistive Technologies: Experience with screen readers such as JAWS and NVDA, and understanding of how they interact with PDFs.

    • Strong Knowledge of Accessibility Standards: Understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2, PDF/UA, Section 508, and related guidelines.

    • Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Capable of identifying and resolving accessibility challenges.

    • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal skills for articulating issues and solutions.

    • Attention to Detail: Thorough in identifying and addressing accessibility problems.

    • Experience with Document Formats: Includes experience with various document types and formats.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using Drupal to upload PDFs.

    Pay Rate: $30.00 hourly
