Our caring team creates a relaxing environment for your dog in our modern spa facilities, which are designed to cater to the comfort of our furry guests. For example, we realize that many dogs may get nervous around loud noises; that’s why we offer a variety of drying methods, such as crate hair dryers or handheld options.
Position Purpose:
Responsible to deliver customer service and grooming services to customers that align with our brand promise. This job is composed of a variety of different tasks that are covered by operational guidelines, but individual judgment may occasionally be required in order to complete assigned tasks. Position is responsible for the welfare of all live animals within the department. Ability to upsell current customers as well as non-customers on our spa services a plus.
Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to consistently perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Ensure Dogtopia brand standards are maintained in the department
Professionally perform basic grooming services on animals as requested by customers and in accordance with company policy and procedure, ensuring the safety and well-being of each pet
Direct customer service experience is essential! We believe the best way for a groomer to deliver on what a client wants is to directly speak to the pet parent themselves. If a client is unhappy, the groomer will be responsible for also handling complaints of grooming and the daycare management will only intercede when necessary. It is each groomer’s responsibility to deliver to the client’s expectations.
High standards of cleanliness- Maintaining a clean and sanitized area is not only integral to great client service but also for the health of the dogs. A groomer needs to maintain a neat and tidy area at all times.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills- You will be the main point of contact for the clients who are having their pet groomed. Our groomers need to have effective communication skills as there are times when sensitive items need to be discussed with the parent.
Compassion and experience in handling nervous dogs is a must! There are nervous dogs and we strive to make grooming a positive experience for all dogs. Possessing skills to calm and work with nervous dogs is essential.
Ability to receive feedback from the clients as well as the daycare management- We want our groomers to thrive and grow and feedback is essential to further development in all positions.
Stamina- Groomers may be on their feet working for more than 8 hours a day as business builds
Groomers need to be professional in appearance themselves at all times. This is a dirty job but maintaining a level of good personal grooming is important.
Manage dogs up to 120+ lbs in size
Utilize grooming instruments including shears and dryers.

Supervisory Responsibility:
May provide guidance to other Dogtopia staff in department. May also test potential applicants for grooming procedures and evaluate skills and other job-related tasks.
Work Environment:
The job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner’s time will be spent in direct contact with our customers and their dogs. The work environment can be noisy and wet.
Education/Experience:
A qualified applicant to this position will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the grooming industry, and either a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is preferred. In addition, the applicant must have completed a Pet Stylists Apprentice Program or a minimum of one year's experience grooming/styling pets under the leadership of a professional groomer and must successfully complete a personal skills evaluation by a Dogtopia manager.
