    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title:        QA/QC/Safety Manager

    Department:    Mill Operations

    Reports To:     Production Manager

    FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

    POSITION SUMMARY:  Manages all activities of plant quality assurance, quality control and plant safety operations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.  Understands and has ability to perform essential functions of Production Manager in order to fill in during his/her absence.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    MANAGE QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL AND SAFETY PROGRAMS:  

    ·       Maintain CCOF account, endure it is kept up to date with new products/procedures/documentation, manage the annual CCOF audit.

    ·       Manage the SQF – HACCP – FSMA programs for the facility.  Ensure all procedures and logs are kept up to date, checks are being done timely, train employees on all procedures.

    ·       Ensure other 3rd party certifications are kept up to date and valid (USDA-APHIS-Kosher-Halal, etc.)

    ·       Manage customer complaints, corrective actions & documentation, customer requests for documentation, vendor approvals files and documentation.

    ·       Ensure QA procedures are being followed and documented (rice checks, metal detection checks, weight checks, code dates on packages are correct, package materials are correct)

    ·       Ensure necessary equipment is functioning correctly (metal detector, magnets, scales, cleaners, etc.) 

    ·       Manage plant sanitation procedures are effective and documented including outside vendor (IPM) work.

    ·       Manage Quality Control procedures for incoming Rough and Milled Rice, mill production QC checks, packaged rice QC including rice and packaging materials.

    ·       Manage plant safety policies and procedures are being followed, monitor and update as needed. 

    ·       Conduct safety meetings and training for all employees.

    ·       Complete accident reports and accident investigations including corrective actions as needed.

    ·       Ensure PPE equipment and supplies are in stock.

    ·       Assist Production Manager to ensure warehouse operations are following FIFO procedures, warehouses are maintained properly, truck inspections and associated documentation is accurate.

    ·       Maintain Glutten-Free Certification Organization account and serve as primary contact for GFCO.

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school education, and minimum of 3-years’ experience in Food Safety/Rice Milling or similar industry.  Management capacity experience and certification in Food Safety/Personnel Safety procedures preferred.

    LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other employees, managers, customers, outside auditors and the general public.  Experience and proficiency with MS Office (Word/Excel especially)

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees in the QC department, and assists in supervision of employees in the entire facility operations departments as needed.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb heights up to 100 ft, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Work environment occasionally exposes the employee to dusty conditions and high noise areas and is required to wear PPE in these areas.
