  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    This position is responsible for the supervision of a shift in a designated area of a major cooler under direct supervision of a Shipping Manager or Receiving Manager.  This position works various shifts and must relocate for the season to Yuma, AZ and possibly other cooler locations.

    Required Skills

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Set work schedules to meet needs of business and control use of overtime.
    • Ensure correct procedures are followed for product receiving, cooling, handling, and shipping.
    • Share responsibility for Cooler safety, training, operational, and financial performance and compliance.
    • Share responsibility for Cooler inventory control and product rotation.
    • Effectively manage all departments within the cooling operations.
    • Act as the main point of contact for the cooler during scheduled weekday activities.
    • Travel and adjust work schedule when necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Experience

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS)

    • 3 years’ experience with fresh produce or food industry or 4-year degree in operations or supply chain management
    • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
    • Strong warehouse and management skills; ability to work in a very fast-paced, high-pressure environment; computer skills using a variety of software programs. Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate, direct work force, and prioritize work. Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, food safety, and GMPs.
    • Must have the ability to make decisions, maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and accept constructive criticism.
    • Previous produce industry experience preferred.
    • Experience in Inventory control, Employee scheduling, Employee Training, Process Auditing, Warehouse SOP, Process Controls, Best Practices and Order management systems highly desirable.

    • Cooler personnel

     EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    • S. Diploma or equivalent. AA or BS preferred.

     EMPLOYEE MANANGEMENT

    • Hourly employees

     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, work in a cold environment some of the time
    • Must have the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
    • Will have some exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
    • Ability to work in a refrigerated (cold) and loud (ear protection required) work environment. PPE required.

    WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT

    • Flexibility to work varied hours is required
    • Ability to work beyond regular business hours, weekends
    • Required to travel and relocate for season
