  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    Responsible for collecting payroll data from field forepersons for commodity vegetable operations, for hourly, non-exempt employees, including those covered under a Bargaining Unit.

    Required Skills

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Collects and documents payroll data provided by Field Forepersons by radio, telephone, or in person.
    • Responsible for inputting payroll data for Royal Farming and OCN Farming from timecards each day.
    • Performs data entry and reconciles timecards with any corrections needed.
    • Efficiently manages a large amount of information that is often sensitive or confidential.
    • Prints breakdowns and rosters for foremen and reviews data for accuracy prior to providing field reports to forepersons.
    • Responsible inputting payroll data of all crews in a timely manner, especially at end of seasons and in compliance and state regulations and as covered under a Bargaining Unit, if applicable.
    • Provides weekly crew roster to Forepersons at end of week for the next payroll period.
    • Escalates questions and concerns regarding payroll to Supervisor or Manager.
    • Assists with sorting checks and attachments as needed.
    • Assists with making copies of documents as needed.
    • As assigned, provides customer service to employees and applicants at the front desk.
    • Provides support and assistance with special projects such as mass mailings, filing, archiving, and testing configurations.
    • Responds to inquiries from employees and management on payroll issues.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Experience

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS)

    • Two plus years’ experience working with computerized payroll systems
    • Knowledge of payroll procedures
    • Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English required
    • Strong typing skills, including 10-key by touch
    • Strong basic computer skills, including Word and Excel
    • Strong detail orientation and follow-through skills
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize objectives
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a professional manner with employees at all levels.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.

    INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONS

    Internal: Human Resources, Payroll, Labor Relations, Forepersons and Supervisors in operations.

    External: None

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    High school diploma required. AA degree or higher preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 15 lbs.

    WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT

    Must be available to work flexible hours, afternoon shift, and must be able to work on weekends.
