    We are searching for a Manager of Data Science to join our analytics team. This new role oversees analytics on a wide range of healthcare topics, including substance use disorders, maternity care, value-based purchasing, total cost of care, and assessing the impacts of COVID-19. In collaboration with data architects and data engineers, the role leads the design and implementation of health data solutions using various data sources, including all payer claims data, for optimized analytics and reporting.

    JOB SUMMARY

    • Lead a team of skilled, passionate analysts in conducting complex analytics to help improve healthcare nationally
    • Oversee analytics on a wide range of healthcare topics, including substance use disorders, maternity care, value-based purchasing, total cost of care, and assessing the impacts of COVID-19
    • Collaborate with data architects and data engineers to design and implement effective health data solutions using various data sources, including all payer claims data, for optimized analytics and reporting
    • Help strategize growth into new areas, such as predictive analytics and machine learning
    • Provide guidance to technical teams ensuring that analytic platforms and data warehouses are built efficiently and aligned with strategic direction
    • Participate in business development activities, identifying strategic growth opportunities
    • As a working manager, deploy your full range of skills and work hands-on with multi-TB healthcare datasets
    • Work with university research teams, state governments, and a variety of other institutions on short- and long-term projects

    TYPICAL JOB DUTIES

    • Collaborate with the Multistate Analytic Leadership Team (MALT) to develop and sustain a vision and roadmap for the Analytic team as well as develop guidelines, technical manuals, training materials, publications, presentations, reports, and data visualizations reflecting advanced knowledge in assigned functional area
    • Allocate staff to tasks and projects based on project need, staff skills and regional considerations, and ensure that employees have the resources and opportunities needed in order to perform their assigned duties at a high level of effectiveness
    • Serve as a content expert in areas including model design and creation of algorithms and predictive models to help solve complex healthcare challenges, and assist in growing this expertise internally
    • Provide input on strategic direction; provide reports to the Board of Directors upon request
    • Provide regular updates and assessments of workload and priorities for project management to the Multistate Analytic Leadership Team
    • Direct and/or prepares written or oral reports for organizational leadership, committees, board members and project officers
    • Serve in a leadership and strategic role related to business development activities; apply for funding opportunities relevant to areas of content expertise.
    • Adhere to all internal quality control processes for programming, visualization and reporting to maintain data integrity
    • Perform advanced analytics in assigned functional area
    • Responsible for data governance which includes collection, storage, maintenance, encryption, analysis, report development and distribution to various audiences
    • Conduct a variety of personnel management activities, including but not limited to recruitment, selection, on-boarding, training, evaluation, and separation, according to Comagine Health policy and practice and in collaboration with leadership and Human Resources
    • Deliver, or ensure delivery, of initial orientation and training (including review of direct reports’ job descriptions), plus on-going training
    • Ensure availability of procedures, technology, and other resources necessary to conduct work activities; provide subject matter expertise as applicable
    • Provide timely, continuous recognition and feedback using objective, job-related data, and observations (including documented performance appraisals); initiates timely performance improvement opportunities in alignment with Comagine Health policy and practice
    • Develop and monitor professional development goals and objectives; assign work and delegate authority appropriate for established, job-related duties, responsibilities, and qualifications
    • Develop, maintain, and enforce individual and team-level performance expectations for deliverables; apply Comagine Health’s general standards of conduct

    LEADERSHIP DUTIES

    • Conduct a variety of personnel management activities, including but not limited to recruitment, selection, on-boarding, training, evaluation, and separation, according to Comagine Health policy and practice and in collaboration with leadership and Human Resources
    • Deliver, or ensure delivery, of initial orientation and training (including review of direct reports’ job descriptions), plus on-going training
    • Ensure availability of procedures, technology, and other resources necessary to conduct work activities; provide subject matter expertise as applicable

    Required Skills

    • Ability to supervise others (set work standards and expectations; coach, counsel, and mentor; assess performance and deal with issues; recognize accomplishments)
    • Ability to delegate work and authority to others in order to coordinate multiple, simultaneous tasks in a team environment
    • Minimum of 8 years of practical programming experience with health care data using Python, R, SQL, and/or other related programming languages
    • Knowledge of statistics or biostatistics and the appropriate application of analytic methods
    • Experience in applying machine learning and/or predictive models to health care data
    • Proficient in data curation (modeling, cleansing raw data, and curating key dimensions and measures)
    • Expertise in analyzing large datasets, including knowledge and experience with relational databases
    • Knowledge of basic data architecture principles and the ability to present potential analytic use cases to data architects and data engineers
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to present statistical and data information effectively
    • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
    • Expert knowledge of health care delivery system and related information systems (e.g. claims, encounters)
    • Expert knowledge of data science and data analysis techniques
    • Knowledge of modern data systems and architectures, and ability to work within these environments
    • Familiarity with cloud environments and data pipelines, including Amazon Web Services, ETL, S3, Glue, and other components
    • Develop, maintain, and enforce individual and team-level performance expectations for deliverables; apply Comagine Health’s general standards of conduct

    Required Experience

    • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in related field may be substituted)
    • 10+ years of healthcare-related data analysis and/or research, including experience with all-payer claims datasets
    • 3+ years supervisory experience
