  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    Quality of fruits and vegetables is key to fresh produce. The USDA developed quality standards for the market to aid in buying and selling of produce. The FSQA Intern would research the USDA quality standards, understand current Dole internal standards, and customer specifications in order to create and recommend an overall quality assurance program with metrics to help maintain and increase Dole’s quality expectations in the fields.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Research USDA Quality Standards
    • Shadow various QA practices, including but not limited to, QA inspections completed by field supervisors, Marina Cooler QA practices and Soledad QA receiving practices
    • Use all learnings to develop and recommend QA metrics for field operations
    • Track and trend data
    • Work with FSQA team in adding metrics to ETQ
    • Create communication loop with key players, like a scorecard, back to the business to drive decisions based  on quality
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    INTERNSHIP TYPE

    • 2021 12-week summer internship.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a collaborative and inclusive environment

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
    • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, climb on and off equipment, lift up to 25 pounds
    • Ability to work in various weather conditions
    • Ability to walk in uneven ground

     

     

     WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT

    • 40-hour workweek, no overtime expected

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    • Fall 2021 Junior or Senior majoring in crop science, agronomy, ag business, food science, microbiology, food safety, plant biology, plant science or related field.
