    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    Manage the receipt, inventory, and utilization of all raw materials and finished goods packaging materials within the Soledad Value Added Plant. Ensure all finished goods produced in the facility are accounted and distributed according to Demand Planning & Transportation requirements. Effectively manage Materials Supervisors to achieve optimum operating results during all aspects of the receiving process, issuance of product to the production line, and release of finished goods to the applicable distribution center / DFV Customer.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Responsible for the management of all Materials Supervisors and departmental bargaining unit employees in their efforts to drive the receipt, inventory, and utilization of all raw materials and finished goods packaging materials within the Soledad Value Added Plant, .
    • Back Up Senior Materials Manager
    • Develop and maintain departmental processes to ensure compliance with all company objectives, procedures, safety program, food safety requirements, “Good Manufacturing Practices” and “Standard Operating Procedures”.
    • Responsible for the Raw Material Cooling operations at the Soledad Value added Plant.
    • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of the companies plastic raw bulk bin inventory, parts, tools and fabrication crew.
    • Responsible for the repair, maintenance and tracking of all internal plastic waste stream handling containers for culls, trash and employee services.     
    • Responsible for all forklift operators and their certification. All forklift maintenance/repairs and performance tracking of all forklifts at the Soledad facility.   (2) 12 pallets, (14) Electrics  and (4) LP Lifts and one MTC battery extraction and charging station.
    • Responsible for all waste stream collection areas at the plant, contractor management, equipment, containers and cost/revenue goals.
    • Manage the time sensitive inventory process (including yield reporting) of raw materials and packaging materials necessary to meet production demands.
    • Ensure the accurate reporting of all finished goods produced (including accurate yield reporting) while coordinating the distribution of finished goods according to Demand Planning and Transportation requirements.
    • Identify and exploit opportunities for departmental cost savings specific to labor and material costs.
    • Interface with Purchasing department and external vendors for order expedition and forecasting requirements.
    • Ensure packaging materials meet required specifications while managing the non- conforming material process with vendors.
    • Manage all systems and reporting necessary to provide accurate traceability of raw and packaging materials.
    • Maintain and ensure compliance with the departmental operating and labor budget.
    • Lead departmental “Safe Quality Food” program.
    • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
    • Follow all food safety requirements and GMP’s as applicable for this position
    • Ensure the integrity and continued operations of the food safety system in the event of organizational or personnel changes within the company or associated facilities
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Required Skills

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS)

    • Requires 3-5 years’ experience in inventory management to include forecasting, planning, procurement, and managing raw and packaging materials.
    • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity required with solid decision making skills.
    • Experience with fresh, perishable products, and/or in a food processing environment preferred.
    • Knowledge of material handling procedures, inventory accounting, and good manufacturing practices.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English
    • Strong computer skills with intermediate level skills in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
    • Flexibility to work varied hours/shifts.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced work environment and effectively manage constant change.

     

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Logistics and material handling, preferably in a food processing environment.
    • APICS certification a plus.

    • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs and lift up to 50 pounds. Able to work in a cold environment (35 degrees F).

    • Ability to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts required.

    Required Experience

    • Requires 3-5 years’ experience in inventory management to include forecasting, planning, procurement, and managing raw and packaging materials.
    • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity required with solid decision making skills.
