The Donation Truck Driver supports the ReStore operation, the organization’s thrift stores that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, and building materials, with meeting company goals as well as top standards for safety, quality, and productivity. This position is responsible for business and convention donation pick up/drop off, loading/unloading of merchandise and deliveries of products purchased by customers from the ReStore. This person serves as a front-line employee who regularly interacts directly with donors, clients and customers and represents Habitat for Humanity of Las Vegas in the community and works to ensure that they receive exceptional customer service and a positive experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pick up donated materials from commercial customers, conventions/trade shows and deliver sold items to ReStore customers.
Verify correct product for pickup and inspect all merchandise according to the organization’s policies before loading into trucks. Report any discrepancies or changes to Business Partnership Manager for update.
Load and unload merchandise to/from delivery trucks and transport containers.
Pad, stack, and secure items in position on truck to prevent damage during transport.
Pick up, transfer, and drop off merchandise to our Sahara ReStore and any other applicable locations.
Pick up, transport, and drop off recycling materials to recycling facilities.
Operate and maneuver warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, & hand trucks.
Maintain, inspect, and document maintenance of vehicles, forklifts, hand trucks, wheel carts, and other equipment.
Adhere to safety guidelines and protocol and wear the proper safety equipment.
Maintain driver log, mileage log, and perform pre‐trip/post‐trip inspections.
Refuel truck. Responsible for making sure the truck has the fuel needed each day.
Maintain inventory of hand trucks, wheel carts, & truck equipment and ensure safety equipment is maintained on a regular basis.
Maintain cleanliness and assist with mechanical maintenance of truck.
Organize and maintain cleanliness of warehouse space and exterior area of warehouse, including proper disposal of trash or hazardous materials according to federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare and provide donation receipts to donors.
Inspect and examine incoming products for defects, damages and ensure condition meets Acceptable Donation Guidelines.
Prepare merchandise for sale (i.e. cleaning, minor repairs, pricing, etc.).
Assemble, check, verify, and fill customer orders.
Responsible for accepting donations and preparing them for the ReStore Warehouse Associates to transition them to the sales floor.
Keep the warehouse organized and maintain cleanliness of warehouse space and exterior area of warehouse, including proper disposal of trash or hazardous materials according to federal, state, and local regulations.
Observe safety guidelines by wearing proper safety equipment and safely operating all necessary equipment.
Maintain quality service by following organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
Provide excellent service to customers.
Comply with Federal, State, local, and company transportation and driving regulations.
Maintain effective, positive, and professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, vendors, customers, and the public.
Direct and lead Driver’s Assistant as needed.
Work at Donation Events, usually taking place at convention centers. Gathering all items from throughout the hall floor and loading into trucks. Event hours will vary from normal schedule.
Abide by all company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Director of ReStore Operations and Executive Director.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to safely operate required vehicles.
1+ years previous driving experience with 26’ box truck or similar vehicle.
1+ years of moving furniture or similar items.
CDL preferred but not required.
Must be dependable, reliable, responsible, and detail oriented.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the general public, customers, and vendors in a positive and courteous manner.
Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills.
Enthusiasm, team, and mission focused.
Must be able to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing.
Must have or be willing and able to obtain forklift certification.
Bilingual is a plus but not required.
Must have a philosophy of support in line with the values, mission of Habitat for Humanity.
REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license, clean DMV record, and liability insurance.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Must be minimum 25 years of age.
Must wear required uniform and maintain personal appearance and hygiene by following the organization’s dress code requirements.
May be required to work evenings, holidays and weekends. Must be able to have flexible hours on days of Donation Events. If possible, schedule will be provided in advance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
This position is physically demanding requiring good physical condition and ability to lift heavy objects of varying shapes, sizes, and weights repeatedly over long periods of time.
Must be able to continuously (67-100% of the workday) and repeatedly reach at, above, and below shoulder, stoop, kneel, balance, bend, twist body, turn body, walk, and stand, use fingering/fine dexterity, wrist motion, flex wrist, grasp/squeeze, handling/gross dexterity, feel, use hand-eye coordination, use foot-hand-eye coordination, hear, talk, climb stairs, use a ladder, lift, carry, push, or pull a minimum of 60 lbs.
Near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision, and field of peripheral vision is continuously (67-100% of the workday) required.
Continuously (67-100% of the workday) required environmental conditions: outdoors, dust, exposure to weather, extreme cold, extreme heat, loud noises, mist, moving mechanical parts, toxic/caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, wet/humidity/rain.
