    ABOUT THIS ROLE:
    Birmingham Promise is dedicated to empowering students in Birmingham by providing equitable opportunities for post-secondary success. The Development Associate will play a crucial role in the organization by maintaining exceptional development systems that promote strong donor stewardship, prospecting, grant management, and events.

    The ideal candidate is a self-starter who works independently, efficiently, and with an exceptional level of attention to detail and follow through. The ability to accept and move through ambiguity at a fast pace is essential. This person will also level up our entire development operation by increasing our capacity to engage with donors throughout the development cycle.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Donor Stewardship

    • Manage the organization's donor database and ensure information is up-to-date, accurate, and properly documented in the database and in all reports
    • Receive and record the executive director's donor interactions and manage follow-up communication where necessary
    • Create prospect and capacity reports as requested
    • Own daily gift processing and reporting
    • Produce gift acknowledgements and other donor correspondence in a timely manner
    • Review daily, weekly, and monthly reports with the finance team for accurate reconciliation
    • Track and manage donor requests and communications

    Fundraising

    • Drive the administrative and logistical efforts behind annual giving campaigns, online giving efforts, and all solicited asks whether grant-based, individual giving, corporate donations, or foundation support
    • Ensure internal records (Google Drive) and donor database (Bloomerang) are completely up-to-date
    • Maintain consistently accurate records of requests and reporting for possible grant funding
    • Assist with grant packet preparation and grant writing
    • Provide support for board meeting discussions related to development progress, including drafting reports or charts, pulling reports, creating detailed lists, etc.

    Events

    • Provide support for annual fundraisers, board-driven fundraising events, or other development events as they arise
    • Manage event sponsorship processes, including soliciting, securing, and acknowledging all event sponsors

    Marketing and Communications

    • Work closely with the development and communications manager on strategic communications, including our newsletter and annual report
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and other members of the Development Team on donor communications, both personalized and general

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Education:
      • Bachelor's degree preferred; can substitute for experience
    • Experience: * At least 2-3 years of experience in the development field required; 3-5 years preferred * Solid knowledge of successful fundraising techniques required * Prior use of any development database required * Prior use and mastery of Excel/spreadsheets, mail merge, and Microsoft Office Suite required
    • Skills & Competencies: * Demonstrable maturity and thoughtfulness; demonstrates an even temperament and focus on getting things done * Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and not dropping any balls * Ruthlessly organized and proactively able to get things done * Proven time management and organizational skills * Hard-working with a positive attitude and a willingness to accomplish the task at hand * Strong oral and written communication skills * Able to work independently with limited oversight on tasks within your wheelhouse * Demonstrated discretion and good judgment due to the sensitive nature of this work * Passion for student success, equity, and closing the opportunity gap for Birmingham's youth.
