    At Dousman Transport we provide opportunities and expect participation in our various safety programs as an ongoing effort to help our drivers develop and refine their skills to safely transport students. We are looking to add to our highly trained professional drivers, we invite you to consider joining our team. We are looking to add to our team of dedicated drivers in all 10 of our locations across Southeastern Wisconsin.

    All applicants must be at least 21 years old; have a clean driving record and be able to pass a background check. DTC offers split shift opportunities that work well with other careers!     Position Summary:

    Responsible for the operation and driving of school buses and the safe transportation of students and other passengers.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Drive school buses to safely transport school pupils between pick-up points and schools over specified routes according to a specified time schedule.

    Comply with local traffic regulations.

    Regulate heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.

    Report delays or accidents.

    Keep the assigned bus clean and free of clutter.

    Inspect bus, check fuel and related systems prior to departure according to company protocol.

    Inspect bus after each route for students and or items left on the bus.

    Drive in a safe, courteous manner. Maintain appropriate and required records regarding trip history.

    Maintain a positive working relationship and communicate effectively with passengers, families, and school district personnel.

    Ensure student passengers are properly and safely secured in seat belt locks, harnesses, wheelchair supports or any other special equipment.

    Complete required paperwork, such as daily attendance and bus behavior reports.

    Maintain the ability to monitor and control student behavior on the bus including awareness of and adaptation to the special medical, physical, communicative or emotional needs of individual student passengers.

    Recognize, model and reinforce positive, desired behaviors. Create a positive, safe and welcoming transportation environment on the vehicle.

    Communicate and refer behaviors to appropriate school district personnel and Terminal Manager.

    Maintain effective working relationships with the aide, school district personnel and parents/guardians.

    Participate in training as directed by the Terminal Manager.

    Create a favorable and professional impression on students, families, community, and co-workers.

    Maintain confidentiality of student/family information in verbal, written and electronic communication.

    Refer confidential and/or behavioral information to the appropriate Dousman Transport Company personnel.

    Follow safe practices and adhere to all applicable safety standards.

    Obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and satisfy all general CDL licensing requirements.

    Obtain and maintain a school bus “S” and “P” endorsement which includes the following requirements:

    Have an “S” endorsement on his/her Wisconsin driver license.

    Possess a valid Wisconsin driver license of the appropriate class.

    Be at least 21 years of age. - Have sufficient use of both hands and the foot normally used to operate the foot brake and foot accelerator correctly and efficiently.

    Meet the physical/medical standards for school bus endorsement referenced in Admin. Rule Trans. 112 by providing either a current federal medical card or an MV3030B (medical examination report for “S” or “P” endorsement).

    Have no convictions for offenses that will result in disqualification for obtaining or maintaining an “S” endorsement.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    Provide on-the-job training to new employees.

    Perform other duties as may be assigned by the company including driving non-regular routes. Company employees are expected to cover or perform temporary or part-time jobs or duties as assigned.

    Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

    Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.

    Have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and continuously maintain and satisfy all requirements for Class B, C and D licenses and S and P endorsements.

    Ability with training to safely operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment.

    Ability to interact positively with all students including students with disabilities or special needs.

    Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the job including occasional to frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling and crouching.

    Regular attendance and punctuality are required.

    Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to successfully complete a background check, physical and tuberculosis test and fitness for duty/drug screen.

    Working Conditions:

    Working conditions are normal for a school bus driver. Work involves driving buses and assisting passengers in a variety of driving and weather conditions. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening driving assignments.
