    In the Trainee Program, Lighter Trainees will work closely with the Lighting and Compositing Lead and CG Supervisor to develop lighting looks and light rigs for CG series and lighting and compositing final scenes.

    Lighting Trainees gain hands-on experience across multiple Television productions while learning from experienced Lighting Artists and Technical Directors. Trainees are mentored by CG Supervisors along with Lighting and Compositing Leads and are exposed to a comprehensive curriculum taught by industry and studio professionals. 

    The Trainee will be a part of the HUB Lighting team, developing new techniques and new visual styles for upcoming series. They will refine their work with direct feedback from the CG and VFX Supervisors. Trainees are also responsible for completing a portfolio project from concept to finish throughout the duration of the program.

    The last week of the program allows Trainees to showcase their work and their portfolio project to creatives and executives across the TV business. 

    The Trainee Program is 12 weeks long and is a full-time, paid opportunity. 

    The Trainee Program is covered by the Animation Guild.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: “WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOU DO HERE?”

    • Design and build lighting and the look of environments and characters for digitally composited sequences to reinforce the vision of show Creative Leadership while meeting the production schedule
    • Setup, light, rig and comp Character and Environment Assets
    • Handle personal asset lighting load, meeting all deadlines of milestones based on the established schedule and technical requirements
    • Initiate, setup, organize and document any lighting tools
    • Perform technical work in support of shot lighting using various production tools
    • Perform creative lighting development setup as required using lighting and compositing tools
    • Optimize setups for rendering
    • Work with Lighting Leads and Supervisors to develop new techniques and lookdev new visual styles
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications • Completion of a relevant program, relevant coursework or recent graduate with an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree from a College/University (or equivalent) • Less than two years of work experience in the animation industry • Solid design foundation including knowledge of: color, contrast and lighting design • Aesthetic eye for light composition and detail • Experience in Maya and Nuke • Ability to communicate effectively • Decent time management skills • Must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if partially or fully vaccinated, submitting your vaccination record no later than 7 days following commencement of employment • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment or adhere to enhanced protocols in select work settings or where jurisdictionally mandated. • Must be willing to adhere to all Company COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols Desired Characteristics • Submit a resume that includes a short bio or summary • Submit an online and/or digital portfolio (PDF) in order to be considered for the Trainee Program (if password protected, provide the password on the resume) • An ideal portfolio will showcase a strong artistic foundation, including composition, contrast, color temperature, subject, and balance along with a technical foundation of CG lighting and compositing • Please include any other relevant works such as illustration, photography, scripting, etc. • Please include work that showcases your lighting process with concept art/reference, lighting breakdown, and compositing breakdown Additional Information
