The Driver is responsible for safely transporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, or substance use disorders to and from various locations, including medical appointments, therapy sessions, community outings, and program activities. This role requires patience, reliability, and a strong commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
Transport individuals to and from designated locations in a safe and timely manner.
Assist passengers in entering and exiting the vehicle as needed, ensuring their safety at all times.
Follow all state and local traffic laws, as well as DBHDD policies and procedures.
Maintain cleanliness and basic maintenance of the assigned vehicle, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
Ensure proper documentation of transportation logs, mileage, and passenger records.
Monitor passengers’ behavior and well-being during transport, reporting any concerns to the appropriate staff.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, caregivers, and other staff to coordinate transportation schedules.
Follow emergency procedures in case of accidents or medical incidents while in transit.
Provide a courteous and professional environment for all passengers.
Qualifications & Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs (preferred).
Ability to lift and assist individuals with mobility challenges if necessary.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Work Environment:
The position requires extensive driving, occasional lifting, and assisting passengers.
Drivers may work in varying weather conditions and should be prepared to handle emergency situations.
