    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, meticulous and detail orientated innovative Materials Engineer to join our growing team for a part-time or full-time position. The successful candidate will leverage their scientific background to develop and execute processes for reliable device fabrication, assembly and operation.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Identify, characterize and validate new materials and processes for cartridge production.
    • Develop robust in-house fabrication and testing processes while exploring outsource manufacturing opportunities.
    • Establish chip QC/QA verification tests and procedures (optical, mechanical and electrical) across assembled devices, and discern which underlying mechanism improves performance.
    • Design, build, test and troubleshoot novel consumable stack-ups. Work with the microfluidics team to assemble parts and refine SOPs for microfluidic consumable fabrication.
    • Operate standard reagents using our microfluidic operation system and collect data to verify the integrity of the final microfluidic cartridge assembly.
    • Develop, document, execute and analyze microfluidic testing experiments.
    • Work with the engineering team to define and test operating system requirements.

    ABOUT YOU

    • A recent graduate in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field including 5+ years of research/industry experience in lab environments.
    • 4+ years past experience with microfluidics, MEMS, semiconductors or similar, including microfabrication experience and deep knowledge of specialty coatings equipment (spin-coating, dip-coating, spray-coating, sheet-coating)
    • Extensive experience working with surface characterization equipment (SEM, contact profilometer, AFM, goniometer, confocal microscope, etc.) to determine thickness, roughness, wettability and optical properties
    • Familiar with basic electrical engineering equipment (function generator, amplifier, oscilloscope, ...).
    • Strong experience working with CAD design and some programming knowledge (Python, R).
    • Demonstrated ability to be hands-on in the design, fabrication and process development of microfluidic devices and systems.
    • Ability to provide feedback for the R&D and process development.
    • Extremely detail oriented, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Excellent data analysis and critical thinking skills, specifically in the characterization of processes in the area of microfluidics or engineering R&D.
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive as an independent contributor in a fast-paced, small startup team environment.

    NICE TO HAVE

    • Familiar with standard photolithography techniques, including clean room experience (class 100 & 1000).
    • Previous experience working in a startup environment.
    • Past experience working in a biology laboratory.
    • Familiar with laboratory automation and microfluidic systems or theory.
