The Duolingo English Test is a modern English proficiency assessment for today's international students and institutions. The test is available online. Testers don't have to make an appointment or travel to a test center—they can take the test from their home via a computer and webcam.

The test is administered using computer adaptive technology, meaning that the question difficulty adapts to each test taker. The test also integrates a video interview and writing sample. The results of this test provide a proficiency score, which we validate. The testers can then share these proficiency scores with institutions that require a certain level of English as part of their enrollment process.

We are hiring remote, independent contractors to work as Quality Review Specialists on this exam. Please note: This is a different role than the English Test Auditor, Tier 2 role with different qualifications, job tasks, and pay rate. 

REQUIREMENTS

YOU WILL…

• Provide the first review of DET tests using an established list of criteria 
• Communicate with the rest of the proctoring team as needed
• Report to a Team Lead who will oversee your work quality and give you feedback on your performance based on standards we have set for efficiency and productivity. 
• Remotely attend 4-6 monthly meetings as needed
• Be willing and able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
• Be willing and able to work at least 10 hours on the weekends
  • Priority is given to applicants who can commit to shifts scheduled on the weekends as defined by 00:00 on Saturday to 23:59 on Sunday in the UTC time zone.
• Maintain confidentiality and abide by an NDA (signature required)

You have...

• Native or near-native English fluency
• At least 1 year of professional working experience 
• The ability to read human behaviors, gestures, and facial expressions well
• Very high attention to detail
• Very high ability to follow process instructions precisely
• Reliable, high-speed internet capable of streaming videos and having Zoom meetings without lag or issues
• Willingness to engage and connect with your team members (We look for people who enjoy socializing and meeting new people!)

If you are an exceptional candidate, you also have...

• Fluency in Mandarin, Arabic, or one or more Indian languages
• Test proctoring experience
• Availability to work +25 hours per week

SCHEDULE & CONTRACT TERM DETAILS:

• Must commit to at least 20 hours per week and there may be opportunities to work beyond this 
• Scheduling flexibility
• A month in advance at a time, you would provide the days and the amount of hours you can work (10 of which must occur on Sat/Sun UTC as described above) and commit to working these hours
• Hourly pay rate: $16 USD
• All scheduling and assessment of total hours worked are done in UTC time

Contract and all payments are done via Upwork All contracts are at will. Duolingo or the contractor reserve the right to terminate contracts at any time.Within the first 90 days, Duolingo considers your contract to be probationary. If the quality of your work and commitment to the guidelines set is satisfactory, this contract will continue beyond 90 days.
