    OVERVIEW:

    POSITION: Nonprofit Controller

    PAY RANGE: $90,000 - $105,000 (based upon experience)

    LOCATION: Chicago (primarily city)

    EXPERIENCE: Federal/State Grant Funded Health and Human Service / Arts and Culture Organizations

    TARGET START DATE: 1/11/2021 - 2/8/2021

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Nonprofit Controller works directly with clients to maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance through testing and training, and working directly with top management to create budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial goals.

    • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.

    • Oversees and manages federal, state, city, local, and private grant compliance

    • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

    • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors.

    • Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.

    • Support an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close

    • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information

    • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.

    • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

    • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.

    • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.

    • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.

    • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll and payroll updates

    • Maintains financial staff results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning and monitoring job results.

    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    Managing Processes, Financial Software (QuickBooks and Financial Edge preferred but not required - training will be provided), Payroll Software, Developing Standards, Accounting, Tracking Budget Expenses, Financial Skills, Analyzing Information, Grant Management, Developing Budgets, Performance Management, Microsoft, CPA not required but preferred.

    BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have at least 7 years of experience in accounting
    • Must hold at least a bachelor's degree, accounting/finance focus
    • Must have experience with nonprofit organizations and grant compliance
    • Must be able to travel to client sites across the Chicagoland area, primarily the city of Chicago and the northwest suburbs. WE WORK EITHER REMOTELY FROM HOME OR FROM THE CLIENT SITE.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to work remotely and onsite when needed.
