POSITION SUMMARY:
We are searching for an onsite SCANNING TECHNICIAN to scan a variety of digital and original (paper) materials using a large-format scanner in a publishing production environment. This involves preparing the map, book or newspaper for scanning; and reviewing the scans for quality imagery. Files are then saved and transferred as needed. This role requires good scanning skills, computer skills, and masterful attention to detail. Familiarity with maps, archives, or foreign language is desired but not required.
KEY DUTIES:
- Using a large-format scanner, scan various materials such as paper maps, books, and newspapers
- Clean and repair of source materials prior to scanning to prevent damage while scanning
- Operate scanning equipment, software and products
- Clean up Raster image, convert, name and store on network
- Track and record scanned materials for metadata creation
- Clean and maintain scan equipment
- Track and report production time for project development
- Order fulfilment of web orders for FTP delivery
- Depending on experience, Raster processing: georeferencing, re-projection, crop, format conversions
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- 1+ year of Scanning/equipment experience required, preferably large-format (feed-through)
- Geographic information system (GIS) experience preferred
- Computer skills using digital image manipulation, Adobe photoshop, or CAD required
- Ability to work independently
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and handle projects under pressure
- Desire to learn new skills related digital products and workflows
- Translation/Foreign Language helpful but not required
- Archival background helpful as it relates to File naming, tracking and storing documents

- The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some flexibility depending upon the demands of the workload
