    Medical-Surgical Nurse is a professional nurse who provides a holistic approach to the care of the patients requiring acute medical or surgical interventions. The Nurse functions both dependently and independently with guidance and direction from the Nurse Manager/designee.

    All Registered Nurses shall have at least three (3) years current experience in an acute care, medical/surgical unit in an urban, academic Medical Center setting exclusive of agency assignments and must have worked within the last six (6) months in the above settings.

    Medical Surgical Nursing: includes telemetry, orthopedics, medicine and general surgery. RN will be responsible for patient assessments, medication administration, IV therapy, interdisciplinary team coordination, telemetry monitoring, admissions, and discharges, internal and external transfers, delegating to assistive personnel, electronic medical record documentation, patient transport, and emergency response procedures. Provides vaccinations and swabbing for Covid-19.

    Education Requirements:

    Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:

    • The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or in related field required.
    • A Master’s Degree Nursing or in a related field is highly preferred.

    Shift Expectations: Nurses can expect to work 10 and or 12-hour shifts, with alternating weekend shifts preferred.

    Minimum requirement for all Registered Nurses assigned to a Medical-Surgical unit shall include:

    All Registered Nurses shall have at least:

    • Three (3) years current experience in an acute care, medical/surgical unit in an urban, academic Medical Center setting exclusive of agency assignments and must have worked within the last six (6) months in the above settings.
    • Nurses must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
    • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
    • Must be able to provide (3) Supervisory References to speak to capacity as RN

    Must be able to pass credentialing process

     

    Position Requirements Include but are not limited to:

    • Assuming a patient care assignment for a group of patients
    • Assessment and care of patients with a wide range of physical and psychological diagnoses and with a wide range of treatment modalities.
    • Care of patients requiring special precautions such as isolation
    • Inserting and maintenance of peripheral lines
    • Maintaining central lines for administration of intravenous fluid
    • Providing emergency care as indicated
    • Administration of medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous) and blood products
    • Verification of physician orders
    • Complete and accurate documentation of care according to facility/unit policies
    • Phlebotomy and bedside testing
    • Psychological support of patients as indicated
    • Complex wound dressing care and maintenance
