    The Certified Nursing Assistant will help patients by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs, providing comfort, assisting with ambulation to the bathroom and bathing, and vital sign monitoring. The CNA will work under the guidance of a Licensed Nurse to deliver comprehensive health services to patient/residents. The work involves personal patient care, supporting diagnostic procedures, technical nursing treatments, patient charting and patient teaching in the following Nursing service lines: Inpatient Mental Health, Community Living Center, and Medical/Surgical Units.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides patients' personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
    • Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
    • Provides adjunct care by administering enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths; applying restraints.
    • Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording and documenting intake and output information on appropriate forms and in the electronic medical record.
    • Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor.
    • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
    • Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
    • Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.
    • Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards
    • One-to-one observation to include Virtual Observation
    • Performs vital signs, intake and output, EKGts, Point-of Care (POC) testing, phlebotomy and collection and delivery of specimens according to protocol, as appropriate.
    • Assists patients in and out of vehicles, wheelchairs, stretchers, etc., in a safe and efficient manner; and will transport unmonitored patients to procedures and/or to inpatient and/or outpatient sites of care. Provide 1:1 observation or constant observation while monitoring status designated patients awaiting transport to another level of care.
    • Provides personal care such as bathing, shaving, mouth care, nail care and shampoo.
    • Ambulates patients with or without assistive devices.
    • Cares for patients on special frames/beds or with prosthetic devices.
    • Feeds patients and administers tube feedings.
    • Sets up and performs bladder and colostomy irrigation procedures.
    • Maintains skin integrity by following guidelines for skin care, including turning, positioning, use of skin protective, and pressure ulcer care.
    • Performs dressing changes, including the application of sterile complex dressings.
    • Suctions oral cavities and tracheostomy patients.
    • Monitors and discontinues peripheral fluid infusions.
    • Monitors use of oxygen and assists with incentive spirometry.
    • Assists with patient teaching(inpatient) Employee will document care that is given according to established medical center policies and procedures.
    • Adheres to safety procedures, infection control and universal precautions at all times, and appropriate disposition of specimen/waste products.
    • Recognizes emergency events or changes in patient condition requiring RN notification.
    • Secures patient belongings according to established medical center policy and procedures.
    • Maintains privacy and confidentiality when providing patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.


      Potential Work Schedule as Defined by Assignment: Community Living Center:

    • Monday- Sunday, Rotating Shifts - 7:00 a.m.- 3:30pm.; 3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.; 11:00p.m.- 7:30a.m.

      MedSurg:

    • Monday- Sunday- 3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.; 11:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m.

      Mental Health

    • Monday- Sunday-Rotating Shifts- 7:30-4:00; 3:30p.m.- 12:00 a.m.; 11:30 pm to 8:00 a.m.
